I stayed at Mercure Kuta Bali for 3 days and 2 nights, in a third-floor room with a beautiful ocean view. Upon arrival, the staff greeted me with warm smiles and genuine kindness. Everyone was friendly, professional, and welcoming — a great first impression. Their service was truly commendable; I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5 for hospitality alone.
The room itself was smaller than expected, though not a major issue since it was the type I personally booked. Inside, everything you’d expect from a 3- to 4-star hotel was provided — Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a hair dryer, and a smart TV. Overall, the room setup was comfortable and practical.
However, I noticed an unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom throughout my stay. It seemed to come from the drainage system rather than from cleaning issues. The odor wasn’t overwhelming but noticeable enough to make the experience less pleasant. For a hotel of this level, I believe the management should handle plumbing odors more effectively, as this kind of issue can significantly affect guest comfort.
In addition, the bathroom sliding door was damaged on one side and required a lot of effort to open or close. I didn’t request maintenance because my schedule was packed and I was out most of the day, but ideally, this kind of problem should be checked before guests check in.
Another thing I observed was that the soundproofing could be improved — I could clearly hear voices from the next room even though the neighbors weren’t being loud. It made the room feel less private and somewhat noisy at night.
As the hotel is located right in downtown Kuta, the area can get very busy and the traffic quite heavy, especially during peak hours. For travelers seeking a peaceful or quiet retreat, this might not be the ideal choice. However, personally, I didn’t mind it at all — coming from Bangkok, I’m already used to heavy traffic, so it didn’t bother me in the slightest.
On the last day, I went up to the fourth-floor rooftop, and it turned out to be the highlight of my stay. The morning view was peaceful and beautiful, and the infinity pool overlooking the ocean was simply stunning. That area gave me a truly relaxing impression of the hotel.
Unfortunately, the check-out experience left me quite disappointed. When I went to the front desk to check out, the staff asked me to wait while housekeeping checked the room. I sat in front of the counter for more than 10 minutes, and no one came back to update me or say anything. It felt unusually long, especially considering that at hotels of this level — and by comparison to service standards in Thailand — the check-out process usually takes only two to three minutes at most. Eventually, when I went up to the counter to ask, the staff simply said, “It’s done,” without any explanation or apology for the delay.
This kind of communication and attention to guests reflects a lack of professional service awareness that really shouldn’t happen in an international hotel chain like Mercure. As someone who grew up in Thailand, where hospitality and service standards are extremely high, I found that service quality in Indonesia still has room for improvement. The staff didn’t seem attentive or proactive enough, which unfortunately diminished what could have been a much better final impression of my stay.
Overall, if I were to rate this hotel, I’d give it 3 out of 5. While the staff were generally kind and friendly — and the location and view were lovely — the recurring bathroom odor, maintenance issues, poor soundproofing, and disappointing check-out experience made the stay less comfortable than I had hoped. Mercure Kuta Bali has potential, but it needs stronger management and better staff training to reach the true standard of its brand and the level of professionalism expected from an...
Read moreStayed over for two nights from 1-2/5 and checked out on 3/5. The hotel is right facing the Kuta beach. Just less than 2mins crossing the busy street and you will see the beautiful sea. The driver dropped us at the hotel lobby. They have a decent spacious lobby. However, upon our arrival, there weren't any staff that helped us to carry our luggages. We have to carry the luggages by ourselves to the lobby to check in. During checked in, the staff will give a welcoming drinks. The check in procedure was a breeze. The lady did explain the standard instruction to us. We were only given one access card for two nights. As I mentioned, none of the staff at the lobby were available to offer help to carry our luggages to the room. We have to do it by ourselves. The room given was 246. Was facing the next hotel building with a decent balcony. The two bedroom has good lighting and cosy air con. Strong powerful wifi. The hotel room provides free toiletries, hair dryer, clean towels and two mineral water in glass! It was a bit inconvenience to carry the glass mineral water outside cos you must have the canned opener to open the mineral water and you must finish it once open cos no way you can keep it without able to close the cap. The in-house safe was locked and we can use it. The kettle was not functioning properly and we have to contact the housekeeping staff to repair it. However the staff came in the room without removing his shoes. Appreciated his prompt action to solve our problem. The shower water power was a bit weak and the water heater wasn't stable as first night we received hot water for showering but on the second night, I barely feel any hot at all. The breakfast is very good with lots of variety and fruits. They have this special Indonesia fruit called Buah Salak madu (snake fruit). Surprising it is very tasty but a bit dry tho. The breakfast is on roof top. They provide a good dining experience facing the swimming pool. The breakfast contains of fried rice, noodle, porridge, eggs, variety of tropical fruits, breads, cornflakes and many different juices (not the real original juices) and coffee and drinks. They have the coffee machine that offers latte and cappuccino drinks which is very nice. The staff were very attentive at the breakfast restaurants. The pool was very nice facing the sunset and sea. The only problem I have experienced was I have a very tight schedule and only able to use the pool on the last day of my stay before checking out. However, the pool area was used for wedding and the hotel guests can't used the pool from 7am to 11am. It is very sad that as a paid guest we were not allowed to use the paid facility! It was quite a disappointment. I booked this hotel mainly because of its sunset and sea view! The hotel is walkable to Beachwalk shopping mall. About 8mins slow walk. The hotel also provides shuttle to airport that charge 200k rupiah. We booked it one day before the departure. It only take 30mins to reach airport from the hotel as we were checking out at 10.30am. Despite some of the hiccups, I will still recommend this hotel. Hope they will improve the lobby services and the reception should have informed the coming guests at least few days before any planned wedding so that the guests can pre-plan their schedule to use the pool. I only received the notification the night before the next...
