The home stay of Made is lovely! We were dropped of by a taxi and walked by this home stay. ||Overall|First of all the entrance is amazing and the work that is done on the detail is extremely beautiful. The place is in the family for ages and they have been building on it for more than 6 years. Even other Balinese people say that it is beautiful and they talk about the time they worked on it. The family part and temple is also beautiful and super big! Everything made by hand.||The room|There are 3 rooms, all a different size. All rooms look super clean (even to western standards), there is a bed, air conditioning, small table and something for your clothes or bags. Each room has a separate building and is really spacious and with white tiles. Each room has its own outdoor veranda. There you will get the breakfast with tea, coffee, fruit, pancake and egg. ||Area|Ubud is a bit busy and the street the home stay is in is in the center. During the day the street is pretty busy but... During the night we didn't hear anything and you can easily walk on the street. The home stay is close by the main street. The home stay is also including the use of the pool of the hotel just 1 min walk from the room. Made (the owner) has a hotel on the corner of the street, Ubud view. Made will explain how you can make use of the pool but basically you just show your key. ||10 min (maybe less if you walk fast) to monkey forest. |5/10 min walk to the main roads with food and shops. Maybe 15 min to the Ubud market. ||Family|Made is the owner (super guy!). He is always around, helps you with whatever you need, you can ask him anything you like and he loves to make jokes. He has a family living there and a brother in law that helps him with the trips. He has 3 drivers and he doesn't ask too high prices. He can also help you with arranging scooters and he knows all about the area. Don't be shy and ask made for tips or help.||There are also some dogs and a wife and a baby of his daughter (she is in the university) but you will not hear them and if you do they want to cuddle.||We love or stay here! So many people came in to have a look and everybody seems amazed. Keep up the...
Read moreI spent a few nights at Gedong Bali Family Homestay in Ubud, and it felt like stepping straight into a dream. The property looks like a miniature temple complex, with traditional Balinese architecture so beautifully preserved that every corner radiates authenticity. Sleeping here is more than just accommodation — it’s an immersion in Balinese culture. The small pool tucked into the courtyard adds a refreshing touch, perfect for cooling off after wandering the lively streets of Ubud.
The rooms are spacious, clean, and well-equipped with air-conditioning, and I was pleasantly surprised not to encounter any mosquito issues, which can often be a concern in Bali. Everything is well maintained, from the stone carvings to the gardens, giving the place an atmosphere of care and respect. Communication with the host was smooth, and while I didn’t see much of the family, the staff I met were kind and welcoming. One small downside: I couldn’t get breakfast even with a supplement, apparently due to staff availability that day — a minor detail but worth noting.
The location is spot-on: tucked away in a quiet lane yet only a short walk from Ubud’s restaurants, shops, and cultural sights. It truly offers the best of both worlds — calm retreat and easy access.
I’d recommend Gedong Bali Family Homestay to travelers who want an authentic, aesthetically beautiful, and serene...
Read moreThe breakfast was very fresh and could be varied between superb green flour banana and honey pancakes and omelette. Fresh coffee and tea were very good, as was the fresh fruit. The room was big and the bed large and very comfortable. The A/C was quiet and very efficient. The 'room' - in fact a detached unit - is one of three beautifully detailed exteriors plus other buildings including a temple. Mangku the charming owner spent years designing and finishing the ornate carvings. It really is an incredible place to stay. Gedong Bali Family Homestay is in a great spot just 10 minutes walk to the centre of Ubud, and with good restaurants just a few minutes' walk away. At night the pavements are not lit well and care is needed with broken paving slabs and holes above the storm drains. Hanuman St and those off it near the centre are filled with good eateries and shops. The main street in Ubud has relentless traffic so you may wish to spend more time in the areas just south of it.
Disliked · Nothing. The roads are very busy but the traffic noise is dissipated due to the room we had being set back in the courtyard. The staff were efficient, charming and...
