What a delightful way to spend a few hours. Dewa was kind enough to offer me art classes at Kupa Kupa art studio.
I first went in June and created an art piece of Ganesh, that I am pretty proud of. With a bit of guidance and suggestions from Dewa, it has encouraged me to go back for more. This visit I completed 2 pieces. Now there is swarasati and Dewi Sri.
Dewa really is a true artist and can bring out the true creative in anyone. If you are lucky you may get to see him work…it’s inspirational. A fabulous way to spend an afternoon and if it’s happy hour, extra bonus because across the road, the warung will deliver cold beer bintangs and food. Delightful.
If you want to meet the locals and take home a momento of your holiday, this is a highly recommended experience. You might be surprised how talented you are!!!
Dewa had a different style to many artists, it is refreshing and interesting. Take the time to sit and discover, you never know where it will lead you. His guidance is invaluable. I cannot speak more highly of a generous and talented man. Funny too! He even does tours and has other items for sale. Worth a look, especially his artwork, the parasols (todungs?) and egg paintings.
Thanks Dewa at Kupa Kupa art studios, Ubud. For the most enjoyable art experience yet. 👍 Highly recommended....
Read moreI just had a 10 hour session with Dewa, and I feel like it’s the best money I’ve spent so far during my holiday in Bali! I’m very thrilled take home my painting as it feels like a very personal piece that is rich with metaphor and symbolism.
Not only does Dewa have a knack of gently encouraging the student to draw from their own inspiration, but he is overall very low key, patient and smiles a lot. He doesn’t hover, and is very knowledgeable in basics art forms such as ‘perspective’ and drawing people. When I asked his assistance he was glad to tutor some more challenging art aspects such as animal anatomy and snowy mountains
Even though I don’t paint - and the closest art I do are doodles while writing notes for work - I felt very supported learning from Dewa and now I feel more confident to do future pieces of art.
ADDITIONALLY the classes are small and customized so you don’t have to compete with other students for art assistance. It’s a win-win!
Also, he is very reasonably priced so I feel like this art studio is a bit of a hidden gem at the moment.
The course was lots of fun and would do it again next...
Read moreI recently did a painting class with Dewa at Kupu Kupu Art Studio. Dewa introduced the idea that I paint with coffee on the canvas rather than using regular acrylic paint. The result was amazing. I painted a Balinese dancer using only coffee as the medium. Dewa helped me, in an encouraging gentle manner to create a beautiful artwork to take home as a special memory from this experience. If you are visiting Ubud and looking for something unique and special to do...I highly recommend that you spend a couple of hours in Dewa's studio...under the creative guidance of Dewa. There's a calm friendly vibe in the studio...and also some wonderful original artworks of Dewa lining the walls, I also did a half day motorbike tour with Dewa to a local quiet waterfall....
