Maharani Guest House — Hotel in Yogyakarta

I love the ambience with plants, gravel, grass. I think it's eco friendly enough since they don't have AC in the lobby and restaurant. The bathroom has ventilation which passes sunlight so we don't need to tur on the lamp during the day. The room is beautiful and clean for me, with a dim light. We can open the curtain if we want to turn off the light. The pool is clean, but it's 80cm-100cm deep I think. Breakfast is good, with white rice, vermicelli, nugget, fried tofu, and sautéed veggies. Toast with jam are available, coffee and tea, pudding and papaya. For me this is delicious looking at the price too. There are not many waiters available, but most of the guests don't seem to need them either. So, this guest house is efficient in terms of energy and human resources. I could order bakmi Jowo and fried rice just across the street and they allowed us to dine inside the hotel restaurant. Pocket...

The front desk and other assistants were fantastic. They worked so hard to make us comfortable, and helped us find a rental car and let me boil eggs in their kitchen.

The new building has all the rooms with twin beds(wider than usual). Room was nice and AC was cold. The pillow was very big, and they had no more extras. The room was pretty clean, but not sparkling (some cobwebs, stray hairs and dust) the bed was comfortable and the duvet was thick, and towels plush. The shower took a awhile to warm up, and when it did get hot, there was no way to turn down the heat, so my shower was too hot.

The older building has the double beds and was clearly older. Even the towels and linens seemed rattier. The older building had a thinner blanket, but the AC didn’t get that cold so it was ok. Have been staying in the guesthouse several times. It has two wings now - the old wing and the new wing. There are many guesthouses on the same street but by far I think Maharani is the best. Originally a big Javanese "pendopo" style house, guests are welcomed in a Pendopo style lobby with a tv room adjacent to it. Since this was a family house, rooms in the old wing are of various shape and size, all have shower inside. The new wing has modern minimalist style, like hotel rooms and slightly more expensive. Between the two wings there is swimming pool which is recently added to the facility. The guesthouse also has well-maintained nice garden and an open pendopo by the pool to relax or have your meals and tea. Overall this is a healthy and...
