Theoretically this place is spectacular, old convent repurposed into a beautiful hotel in the hippest neighborhood of Rome. It delivers on that. But unfortunately, it doesn’t deliver on anything else, the “suites” and service do NOT warrant a label of “4 star hotel”. “SUITES” ARE NOT SUITES: Paying for a suite, we checked into a room that had no separate living room area at all despite the website listing mentioning that for the room we booked. Our room only came with 1 small wooden chair, no place for 2 people to sit together.
When I called to ask about the discrepancy I was told that ‘the pictures don’t show all the rooms’ and they assured me that this tiny room was a “suite”. I said their website says each suite comes with a “small living room”, to which they responded “Well, each room is unique”.
Several other issues plagued the stay.
UNRELIABLE WIFI: First, the WiFi in our room regularly dropped from our devices (~every 30 seconds to 4 minutes). My partner had a job interview during our stay, so a reliable connection in our room was critical. We raised the issue to the front desk immediately, and they again told us this wasn’t actually an issue. “Room 114? No, the internet fully works there, there are no problems.” That’s a strange thing to hear when you’ve spent time regularly disconnecting. They suggested that he sit in the lobby area for the interview the next day.
The next afternoon I noticed an event sign, welcome desk and large bar set up in the lobby and asked the front staff what was going on. There was a large event scheduled in the lobby for the same time as his interview in the space the afternoon prior they suggested he take his interview. I brought up that this would be an issue (tall ceilings, marble floors, very echoey loud lobby space), the young woman at the front desk assured her that it would not at all be a problem, that he should still plan on doing his interview down there. She assured me it wouldn’t be too loud down there and people wouldn’t arrive until later, but sure enough they arrived early and were very loud.
He went down to the desk to ask for guidance on what I could do for my interview since the WiFi does not work in my room. They offered that I could do it in their small reception space (which everyone walked through for the event). The young lady at the front desk kept gaslighting me and was very condescending and rude, telling her that the WiFi works just fine in our room. It was only after much back & forth that she finally agreed to have maintenance sent up to our room. The maintenance guy moved the router to directly above our doorframe which solved our issue for that second night, but I am sure it made the WiFi connection worse for others in the hotel. Do not expect to get a reliable WiFi connection at this hotel.
SEWAGE SMELL/BROKEN BATHTUB: The room had a bathtub and the drain wouldn’t open. Maintenance came and put a new drain in, but the replacement didn’t hold the water.
There was also an underlying, consistent smell of sewage in our room. Perhaps it’s an issue the hotel is aware of as our bathroom had a scent diffuser. After our room was made up after our first night, it smelled like they had used strong cleaning chemicals or an aresol spray to mask the smell, which was effective for maybe an hour or so until the sewage smell came back.
NOT INFORM GUESTS OF ON-GOING CONSTRUCTION AND LARGE LOBBY EVENT: It is standard protocol & common decency to inform your hotel guests of construction or large events happening in the hotel, especially if you are a small hotel & it takes up almost the entire lobby space for an entire evening. Also loud construction was happening right outside our bathroom window (see picture).
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE: The young woman at the front desk was condescending, rude & repeatedly gaslit us as to what we were experiencing, telling us we were wrong. No one at the front desk when we checked out bothered to ask us how our stay was.
It’s a shame because this hotel has a lot of potential, but right now it is not...
Read moreOur stay at Donna Camilla Savelli was nothing short of exceptional. We spent four nights here, and from the moment we arrived until the time we checked out, the experience exceeded every expectation. The hotel is stunning — a beautiful blend of history, charm, and modern comfort — but what truly sets it apart is the people who work there.
From the front desk staff to the concierges and bellboys, every member of the team was warm, professional, and genuinely eager to help. Every interaction felt personal. They weren’t just doing their job — they were passionate about ensuring guests had an unforgettable stay. Their attention to detail and willingness to assist made us feel valued and cared for.
A very special mention must go to Marina, who took care of us during breakfast each morning. She was the definition of world-class hospitality. No request was ever too much for her — even our more specific or demanding ones. She anticipated our needs before we even voiced them, remembered our preferences, and made every breakfast a pleasure. Marina’s kindness, energy, and grace elevated our experience immensely. Her service was genuine and heartfelt, and it made us look forward to mornings at the hotel every day.
The breakfast itself was excellent — beautifully presented, fresh, and inclusive of dietary needs. It was refreshing to see the hotel so accommodating with lactose-free options and gluten-free selections, which shows a real commitment to guest comfort.
Our room was spotless and tastefully designed, maintaining the charm of the property while offering all modern conveniences. The housekeeping team deserves recognition for their impeccable work — every day we returned to a perfectly refreshed and peaceful space.
Having traveled extensively and stayed at many luxury hotels around the world, I can confidently say Donna Camilla Savelli stands out. It’s not only the beauty of the property or the comfort of the rooms that impresses — it’s the human warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality that make this place feel special.
If I could give this hotel more than ten stars, I would. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for making our stay unforgettable, and an extra special thanks to Marina for her extraordinary care and kindness. People make hotels great — and at Donna Camilla Savelli, the people truly...
Read moreWe recently visited Rome and Stayed at the Donna Camilla Savelli. The area was a little far from the main attractions. You may want to stay a little closer to the center Rome. It is near restaurants but nothing special. The Hotel itself is decent. We were in a room that was outside of the hotel. We had to walk out of the hotel down the block, and down an alleyway. There are many rooms in this section so be very careful when you are booking to look for a room inside the actual hotel. I had no idea when I booked that this was the case. Once I was in my room at night, I did not have any wifi or cell phone service, and unless you want to climb 6 flights of stairs and go through the very tiny quiet dorm-style hallways to get back to the main area you are stuck in there for the evening. Most of the hotel guests leave their keys at the front desk when coming and going because they are very large. However, I had to carry mine around since I needed them to get in and out of our section of the hotel. If I didn't I would have to walk all the way around the block to give them back every night. My friend looked out onto an alleyway, and I looked out to an undecorated empty courtyard. There is a reason they bring you outside of the hotel, and down the street to get to your room. I did not find the hotel front desk staff particularly nice, or caring in any way. The waitstaff was much nicer. My room looked like a dorm. Not decorated or welcoming in any way. My other friend's room inside the hotel was nicer. It seemed as though the rooms on the alleyway were an afterthought. Not cared about at all. It made it worse as we came from Sorrento having been spoiled at the Grand Capdiamonte. Everyone there was very kind, and helpful, and the rooms and views were amazing. Even though I had one of the cheaper rooms at Donna Camilla Sevelli they were still pricey enough, and when I asked for an upgrade to a better room, and was willing to pay more money, they said they would get back to me, but they never actually...
