Outstanding hotel centrally located but quiet with friendly helpful staff and excellent bar and restaurant.||Hotel graciously accommodated our request for rooms nearby each other and our kids were in the room right next to us. Beautifully decorated rooms are pristine with comfortable seating and immaculate bed & bedding. Our deluxe room overlooked the main street but was not noisy at all and we slept very well. The kids' classic room was smaller but equally as comfortable & the bathroom had beautiful claw foot tub.||What sets this hotel apart from other hotels of a similar caliber where we've stayed is not only the unique history but the outstanding bar/restaurant and friendly helpful staff. After check in, we had excellent cocktails in the beautiful courtyard along with some delicious snacks. The cocktails came with pretty watercolour bookmarks marking the 100th year of the hotel. As an avid reader -- of books, not devices -- I'm still using mine and stole the ones given to my family as they will not use. Breakfast is fab, made to order and will accommodate requests whenever possible. We normally try to eat all meals except breakfast outside of hotels but the setting & food here is so lovely, we had the most delicious lunch on our last day. It was also wonderful to see the restaurant/bar is well used by Romans and be surrounded by locals not only tourists. The rooftop bar was not open during our stay -- maybe due to the heat? -- so we did have the opportunity to check it out.||Location is great - we could walk to all of the main tourist areas and it is well situated to visit the Vatican. My travel companions (lapsed Catholics & non Catholic) were skeptical, esp as our tour was 8 am to avoid crowds (still crowded but not unbearable and no waiting) but it is truly magnificent/well worth a visit, even the skeptics agreed.||Finally all the staff here are all incredibly friendly and gracious. Service in all areas of the hotel from room turn down to the front desk is excellent. A special thank you to David at the front desk and Riccardo for their help in recommending restaurants, getting taxis, storing our luggage, etc. We plan to return soon and...
Read moreRooms are priceless. Exactly what you’d want to stay in when in Rome. Timeless elegance, clean as a whistle but maintaining the old world Italian architecture ambiance and style throughout. The rooms are cleaned and maintained throughout the day if that is your preference.
The staff is impeccably professional yet quaint and so warming. Every individual on the property knows how to read a room and produce the experience you personally want. They remember your preferences re anything and everything and are incredibly responsive. I have terrible food allergies and you name it they will handle. Ie I wanted sweet potatoes and they made them exactly as I asked, I wanted pasta without evoo they made the sauce from scratch no questions asked. Our room was noisy and they found us a different room immediately and moved all our bags without a bat of an eye. I was so impressed constantly with their kindness and lack of annoyance.
The location was also superb, right in the middle of everything yet set back on a quiet side street where you can pop in an elegant handmade clothing store just across the street, or an impeccable unassuming 5 star pizzeria next door.
I must say the best part is also the breakfast which is included daily and unlimited. It isn’t like a gross buffet, either. It’s all order from a menu and increddddibly fresh. Just such an amazing team of people inside these luxurious and beautiful walls. I could cry as how lovely everything was for us. Worth every stinkin penny and then some.
We miss you guys and love ya so so much. Thank you from the bottom on our hearts for making the trip truly unforgettable.
I love you, Laura, veronika, Chad and...
Read moreI just wrapped up three nights at the Locarno during sweltering August, and what a welcome refuge it was.
After several visits to Rome, a friend suggested I stay here, and I’m glad he did. The hotel is elegant and discreet - with a storied history and loyal clientele - evident from the moment you step inside. The room was spacious and well-appointed, strong air conditioning; being on the ground level I was initially concerned about street noise, but was happy to discover the windows are equipped with automated blackout screens that keep both light and noise out, ensuring a restful sleep. Only criticism is that my room had no individual lamps, just overhead lighting. So the options were either very bright or pitch black. From both a design and practical perspective, I would address this. (Looking at the website, it seems like this is not the case in most other rooms.)
The twice-daily housekeeping service was among the best I’ve ever witnessed, with an incomparable attention to detail. The staff at the reception attend promptly to any request and are friendly; the concierge services exceptional, with seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of the city, which restaurants are open when, and so on.
The hotel bar is handsome and offers an ideal setting for an evening cocktail. The drinks are quite expensive by continental standards (around €25 each), but that doesn’t seem to stop anyone and I suppose it didn’t stop me, either. I also would have preferred some jazz over the somewhat loud music they were playing on loop throughout my stay.
All told, my new favorite place to stay in Rome. I look forward to...
