Goethe House — Attraction in Rome

VIAGGIO IN ITALIA XXI - La sguardo full’altro (Journey to Italy XXI The Gaze We Turn On The Other) is a group exhibition of eight artists, at Casa di Goethe Museum, on Via del Corso 18, in Rome. This exhibition is curated by Ludovico Pratesi. The Casa di Goethe Museum is established in the house where the German author Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832) had lived with a friend of his, painter Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein. Now it is used as a museum, the exhibition I visited was about the “journeys in the twenty-first century”. The director of Casa di Goethe, Gregor H. Lersch, says that the exhibition takes its inspiration from “Goethe’s Italian journey and addresses the question of what travel means in our own day and age.” The exhibition begins on the left side where one pays for the entrance ticket. The German writer Johann Wolfgang Goethe(1749-1832) lived in Roma with his friend painter Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein in 1786 ~ 1788 for 2 years. Mid-thirties in his age Goethe traveled on foot in Italy from the north to the Sicily. Because he loved Rome and Italy. This small museum preserves his friend Tischbein's drawings and Goethe's books and letters. There's is his first novel The Sorrows of Young Werther. Also there's a big and beautiful drawing of him on the armchair looking over the Roma view. And a big portrait of him by Andy Warhol.
