Deceiving and way over priced! We recently stayed at this hotel - upon arrival, the reception person was standing outside smoking but he was hospitable. Later we asked for 2 additional pillows - when we returned, they were on our bed wrapped in baby sheets for a cot (teddy bears in diapers included!) instead of pillowcases. We showed the housekeeper the next morning and she was shocked.
We had specifically asked for a quiet room when we booked this room, and we were assigned a room next to a building with a rooftop terrace - chairs and tables scraping the floor well into the night. With this, and the noise from the air conditioning system, we did not sleep much during both nights of our stay.
The room was very disappointing - the size and quality rooms presented on the Profumo website are deceiving. We had two suitcases and could only open one at a time (we could not fully open the door because one suitcase had to stay behind it) and the bathroom and shower were very small. Also, the “luxury” furnishings are worn and tired - not so upscale as advertised.
The first morning we went to the breakfast room at 8:45 and most things were gone or almost gone and had not been replenished. On our second day, there were two other staff at the entrance - neither of them bothered to look up from their phone when we entered or left (not speaking, just browsing, social media, etc.). You could walk-in and walk right by them whether you were staying there or not. Not very secure.
Our final morning, the housekeeper began loading her cart directly outside our door at 7 am, waking us. This was so noisy that it sounded as though she was in the room with us. As we were on holiday, this was not a pleasant way to begin our day.
We spoke to the manager when we checked out (because no management is on site on the weekends) to express our disappointment. He was apologetic and asked us to send him an email - we did and he responded with nonsense excuses provided by the employees. We booked this hotel based on the location and the great reviews (obviously those reviewers paid much less than we did) and at the price we were charged we expected a much higher quality of room and service - disappointing.
If anyone has booked, and are paying more than 200 euros for a Saturday night (much less for a week night), I would suggest finding something else in the area with more value for the money...
Read moreMy finance and I were due to stay at the Profumo Maison Colosseo for a single night in Rome. Unfortunately less than 24 hours prior to check in - we were notified that the room was not available due to a service issue, and they would have to relocate us to their other hotel in the city, Profumo Maison Ripetta. This was about a 45 minute walk away from the original location.
However we had a bit of a strange interaction with the staff to get to this stage. Initially we received an email asking us to phone the hotel, with no other details, when we phoned the person who answered did not understand why we were phoning and told us we were in the Colosseo. We pushed, as we were confused on why we had to phone, eventually she checked and told us we would be going to the Ripetta instead. We accepted as this was our only option.
Prior to arriving at the Ripetta, 15 minutes before check in, we receive a whatsapp with a list of instructions on how to enter our room. However when we arrived at the hotel we found there was no key left for us, and there was no staff present on site - no reception / bar etc like the Colosseo. We phoned the same number as previous, and after 20 minutes or so we were finally in our room after they spoke us through how to get the back up key, they said the cleaner must have forgot we were coming.
Sadly that did carry over into the room as well, which while it was an upgraded room due to our relocation, it was quite thick with dust, and the bathtub had not been cleaned. I imagine this would have not happened had the last minute switch not occurred, but still frustrating to see. The room also had some unfinished qualities to it, paintwork looking bad in some areas, neither of us could figure out how to turn off the AC etc - I normally wouldn't bring this up, but as we were upgraded to the suite room, you would expect a higher level of finish.
Besides this the room was fine, the beds were comfy, and it was still close to the main attractions of the city. Sadly the ordeal getting in took some of the shine...
Read moreProfumo Maison d'Hotes is one of many reasons that make Rome is one of my most memorable experiences in traveling. I wish I had more days to stay to experience the city, the food, and best of all, the beautiful people there. The moment we arrived at the hotel, we were so welcomed with at least, two professional and helpful staff. All of our suitcases and bags were immediately delivered to our room and we were greeted with warm and friendly welcoming attention.( I can't recall the names of those two gentlemen, I was too exhausted from the 10 days cruise). From them, we received great information about the local food, ice-cream, and shopping that we could use for the next couple days we was there. Fausto was at the desk on the next early morning when we left and was still there until the very late evening when we got back. He is absolutely a gem. He arranged taxi for our shopping trips, booked early airport transportation, showed us the city map with places and local tips. Thanks to him, we beat the crowd, had the best food, and saved so much time from stayin in lines in the scorching heat to get into the museum that day. This place makes my stay so special. I feel like home, because the interior layout, its small size, boutique artistic style, and the hospitality of the staff. The room itself is clean and the entire hotel is fragranting. The bed is comfortable and the linen is new. I am in love with Rome, with its rich history, beautiful art, museums, foods, and the local kind, friendly, and passionate people; and of course, with this place where I will definitely come back when i visit Rome...
