I stayed a total of 5 nights, over a 2 week period. Twice in dorms and once in a double. I can confirm no bed bugs, not sure if I was just lucky or they have been taken care of. Nice straight walk from the bus station with 6 bridges to climb about 8 to 10 minutes passing Malcanton Marcorà University on the way there. There is no sign post, if you have reached the plaza you have gone to far. Once you clear the last bridge before the plaza you will find an Indian takeaway on the left hand side, right across is door with the number 2967 over it, that's it. There is a small note with numbers to call and a bell to ring. Even though the check in times are advertised as 2 to 9 pm, there is a chance that no one will be there to let you in best call and let the manager know what time you will arrive. The manager is cool have your passport and the small city fee handy. I would not consider this place a hostel, no chill out area, it just a bed of the night. The Dorm Room and the double rooms were nice and clean. Cleaning lady is a doll, really nice gal. Only two bathrooms one on each floor gets complicated before checking out at 10, best to get in early. I was happy overall with my stay, nice area with market, bars, restaurants and great place to start your exploration of Venice. Had a rude awakening on my second last morning by plain clothes police around 8:30 am asked to give them identification and had to fill a form. They showed id I wasn't able to read and said they were part of terrorist watch. The form had unusual questions that had nothing to do with terrorist, something I had to sign. Not sure if this is normal, I did let the manager know about it and he call me and played innocent.
Good place to stay I would definitely...
Read moreBooked 3 nights but only stayed for one. On checking in, I was subjected to serious and incredibly inappropriate sexual harassment from the member of staff at the desk. They told me they were the owner, but I am unsure if this was true.||||This staff member made multiple unacceptable comments, including: ||||Asking me to have sex with him. ||Asking me if I had a condom. ||Singing bizarre songs about sex. ||Asking to be my boyfriend. ||Other inappropriate comments about sex and intimacy.||||I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe after this encounter, but was exhausted at the time. As such I stayed one night after securing the door to the room. I then found alternative accommodation for the remainder of my time in Venice. I also received an inappropriate text message from the staff member in question, asking if I had checked out as he was planning to ‘visit my room’ for my birthday.||||I reported these actions to the hostel customer service email address, but they said they spoke to the staff member and he denied everything. saying he was just 'warning me' about other guests and 'singing Hindi songs'. This is absolutely not what happened and I told them as such. They also refused to refund me any money whatsoever. I may have been contacting the same staff member who harassed me; I do not know.||||Avoid at all costs, especially if you are a woman...
Read moreWe were a group of 9 who stayed in Backpackers House Venice for two nights: December 8 and 9. We'd like to complain about the cleanliness and service. The place is run down and it has bed bugs in every room. We talked to the owner and manager and both gave us the run around at first. The owner then admitted it was too expensive to get rid of bed bugs and he couldn't afford to stop business when he's continually booked because it's in a good location. The 9 of us left there with bites all over our bodies and faces and had to take the necessary steps at home to assure we wouldn't infest our own homes. We have pictures date and time stamped of the bed bugs in our rooms. ||Secondly, we were initially overcharged for a tenth person. We told the owner this was a mistake, he acted as though the language barrier was too much to really understand that we were asking not only for a refund of what was overcharged but also of the rooms due to the bed bugs. ||We know that every room in that place has bed bugs because we were 9 who stayed in 5 different rooms in those two nights as he changed us around guaranteeing that there wouldn't be any in the next. Also we met some guests who had also complained about bugs in their beds. ||Terrible experience overall. Not to mention, the rooms that look out onto the street are very noisy at night due to...
