I was almost discouraged by some bad reviews. But, i am very happy that I ignored his reviews and decided to stay here. I stayed here for two nights and I was very warm and comfortable. For 4350 you get a private room. The room is small and somewhat dilapidated. But it is clean, and the WiFi is very fast. The heating is great. The location of the hotel is perfect. And, during my stay it was very quiet. Although the room is dilapidated, it actually ended up being quite charming. Kind of old style retro. There are two single beds in the room. There’s even an old dial phone —and it works! Sink, small toilet, and very small bathroom. I didn’t use the shower/bath in the room anyway as the onsen is much better. ||The ladies who run the place are charming and very helpful. The downstairs area is very charming with many antiques.||If you are looking for a luxury room, this place is not really for you. But, if you want a warm, comfortable and friendly location right in the center a block from the train station, this is a great option. ||Also, I arrived at around noon and checked in with no problem. Many other hostels or hotels in Japan seem to want to prevent you from checking in...

This is a Showa-era style ryokan. The facilities are actually quite old, but it has a lot of character. It's recommended for people who enjoy retro and nostalgic vibes. The owner is a very kind elderly woman. She has difficulty walking, but she's always smiling. She knows a little English and will explain the check-in details carefully. Currently, the ryokan no longer has hot springs. If you want to use hot water in the bathroom, you need to inform her in advance. It takes about 15 minutes to heat up, just like when you were at your grandma's house. However, the owner will introduce a nearby public hot spring bathhouse. The Kaimenji Onsen is nearly 100 years old. If you want to go, the owner will provide a ticket for you, so you won’t need to pay extra. She will also give you towels, yukatas, body wash, and shampoo. They don't accept credit cards here, only cash. The rooms are on the second floor with no elevator, but the rooms are very clean. You can tell that the items are older, but they are well-maintained. Unlike regular hotels, there aren't many convenient facilities. The toilet and bathroom are separate, and there is a rotary phone in the room. The location is right in front of Beppu Station, and there are two Lawson convenience stores nearby. There are many restaurants and hot springs around, and it's close to the airport express bus stop. The nearby shrine and Yutaka bakery are also within walking distance, and they allow you to store your luggage. This location is very convenient, and the price is very affordable. You need to change slippers on the first floor when entering the room, and you must leave the key at the front desk when going out. The owner is always at the front desk, kindly wishing you to be careful on the road. This ryokan is not recommended for guests with high standards. Although it’s not a new ryokan and the facilities are not perfect, you can feel the warmth of being at your old home here. The decorations and items in the ryokan are something to be appreciated slowly, so you can truly feel the traces of time and history. When you return, you can also greet the owner and say: “I’m...
