What I like: great location with 5 minutes walk to the Beppu Station and bus stop going to Yufuin; a Lawson just across the road and two supermarkets within 10 minutes walk from the hotel; great value for money; good service in general.
What I don’t like: We chose to dine at the hotel over 3 nights - 2 Kaiseki dinners and 1 buffet dinner totalling ¥18,000. This is not cheap considering our room for the entire stay only costed less than ¥40,000. We generally very much enjoy Japanese Kaiseki and always try to book it as part of the accommodation plan when travelling in Japan. However we were disappointed with the Kaiseki offered to us. The quality was not on the same level as the price point. We picked two different types of Kaiseki but half of the dishes were the same. We don’t speak nor read Japanese. There was a printout menu on the table but with the price we paid, we would expect that when the dishes are served, someone explains to us what the dish is. In addition, the reservation mixed up my booking name so the front desk had trouble finding our booking when checking in.
But I would like to express my sincere thanks to one of the staff members, To 陶. The typhoon 10 has disrupted our travel plan and we had to reorganise our transportation from Beppu to Tokyo. The patience and willingness to assist by To 陶 made a great impression on us. We were in a stressful situation and very much appreciated all the support...
Read moreWe stayed at the Hotel Kamenoi- and were allocated room 1508||The lobby in the hotel is huge as is the hotel - plenty of lifts to get to the upper floors||Our room 1508 - was the largest hotel room we probably have ever stayed in - it was HUGE ||The room had all you needed - a large TV - but again NO English channels. We had a safe, fridge etc.||The bathroom as huge - but the shower was in the bath - maybe an issue for some getting in and out of the bath - but bot a problem for us. There was plenty of hot water and the ubiquitous Japanese toilet||The main problem we had with the Hotel Kamenoi is that the hotel is in the middle of a suburban area - just housing all around. There are no restaurants etc. nearby - this was at least a couple of kilometres away.||While we were there it was raining heavily and we could not get transport to the city centre of Beppu. The hotel did have a Japanese restaurant on site (fully booked) or a buffet - asking price for the two of us $AUD approx. 100 - just overpriced.||Luckily there are 7 Eleven, Lawson near the hotel for take away||the breakfast in the morning is all you could ask for - no problems||This hotel is great if you are driving - but not so great if you do not have your own transport.||The huge room/facilities do not make up for being stranded in a...
