I was a bit trepid trying out this hotel after reading some negative reviews. But those reviewers have obviously never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in the US before! This hotel was comfortable and filled with pleasant surprises! We had room 1119, and whilst small with a very narrow window, we still felt comfortable as room was clean and neat. Room comes with fridge and an air purifier which is a plus. Our bathroom had no smell (as others complained about). Regarding checkin at 3 pm- we came early and left our bags with the front desk. At 4:15 pm, we arrived and our bags were already in our assigned room. The first bonus was the hot bath spa on the 13th floor. I highly recommend heading to the spa after a long day out. After the days 20k steps of exploring, I could feel my body melting away in the hot soak and feeling revived and ready to go again! But please wash yourself FULLY before soaking in the bath. Do not enter in the large bath soaking tub unwashed- there are clear rules given, and I’ve attached a photo of it as well. Second surprise was the lovely breakfast! Western and Japanese styles- even sushi, squid shumai, egg custard, miso soup, noodles, etc. The selection and quality was very good; I was a happy camper! Definitely Recommend this hotel and I would definitely stay here again!

Pissed off that they charged me 1500 yen for checking out at 11:30am. Never in my life staying in over thousands of hotels did I ever get a penalty for leaving half an hour late. While I understand it's their policy, they should have told me over the phone, instead of just saying at the desk HEY YOU, PAY THIS! They didn't even bother to explain what it was (we initially thought it was a concierge luggage keeping fee). Many comments complained about the stuffy bad or urine smell in the bathroom, and we had that too, but it wasn't serious. This seems to be common across all hotels in Japan. The stars are for clean and spacious rooms, kind staff at the public bath, and the baths itself. It's really nice and I enjoyed it. The location is also decent as you're in the middle of the Canal city side and the downtown shopping area side. Next to the first Ichiran store and Bills brunch place, Matsukiyo, Don Quijote.

First time trying Mitsui Garden however it’s greatly disappointed. The room size is small - we book the deluxe twin room and there is no space enough to open our luggage. When we see all the amenities to pick up at the lobby - bad sign as good hotels would never do that. It’s claimed to be a 4-star hotel but we really feel it’s 3-star. The public bath does not have towels and the room only includes two big towels and are required to bring to use at the public bath. They advise us at check in but we forgot. Given the price of this hotel is the highest as compared to other 4-star or 5-star hotels we stayed this trip, the quality of service and room cannot match with the expected value on this price, so therefore the poor rating.

Out of all the hotels we stayed in Japan, this one was probably the most disappointing especially being 4 stars. The most expensive out of all 4 locations we stayed at from Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima

A few minutes walk from the train station, easy to find. Check in was good, and they received our luggage from Hiroshima promptly too. We also had a charger that we forgot at our Osaka hotel also delivered a package here.

This room was the crampiest - which may be my mistake as all previous hotels our rooms were 30m2++

Overall the rooms were clean and comfortable that can be.

A little gripe - being a sustainable hotel and leaving the amenities down in the lobby, I do noticed certain people of a certain nationality take a lot of items for their stay. I noticed one gentleman grabbing 10 toothbrushes! Who does that? It’s not a free buffet. I think these kind of things should be monitored as it looks greedy and simply poor form. My partner and I take own toiletries but if we need anything we only take what is required. It defeats the purpose of sustainability. Best the items be in each room accordingly so people don’t take advantage of this facility.

We didn’t try the onsen so can’t comment on that.

I did notice the demographic of this hotel is very Chinese base, and not to be rude, they have no etiquette when it comes to the lift or walking in/around the common areas.

Convenient hotel, surrounded by the nightlife, eateries and Yatai by the river at night. The infamous Ichiran is around the corner. Bear in mind this hotel is located near the red-light district. I accidentally got lost on my runs one morning and awkwardly ran down of those streets!

Would I be back? To Fukuoka yes, but probably...

It was a terrible experience overall for this hotel and would not recommend. The staff were all not English proficient with no assistance or service. The background is i booked may 1-4th through one booking platform and then may 4-5th through another agent. ||When I checked in - the receptionist could not find my booking for the 4-5th may - I asked them to call Agoda. Obviously nothing was done. Then I called Agoda in front of reception and Agoda said it is bc the booking won’t show until a few days later ( which I found out to be a lie as well from||Agoda). Then may 3rd I went to reception again and they still could||Not find my reservation. Of course the hotel did absolutely nothing in the interim so I called Agoda and this time the Agoda agent seems to understand English. He helped and after me spending 35 mins of my international IDD calls they said they finally found my reservation. I then asked the hotel what happened and they soar it was not their fault and now I have demanded their explanation and still nothing . ||||In any case whilst I was sorting out this saga - a lady beside me was late 10 mins from check out bc she was waiting for an avialable staff member and then they charged her for late check out fees. I saw her waiting at the reception and it was bc they were so short staffed they charged her that is grossly unfair. ||||I would never stay here again. Terrible service for Japan and for Mitsui...

Whenever possible, I choose Mitsui Garden Hotels but it was my first time in Fukuoka and it might be my favourite in Japan so far! The location, style and comfort were outstanding, but more importantly, the warmth and helpfulness of the staff made it memorable. Two things happened that were initially stressful, yet your staff made everything so simple and easy. First, I needed help prior to the trip changing my reservation because I couldn't do it myself online (it's not possible if you booked with a debit card). Through a phonecall, the employee organised everything for me without any change in the price, despite being peak season. Once I arrived, everything was ready for me. Shortly after arriving, I realised I had picked the wrong suitcase at the airport. I was very stressed having caused so much trouble for another visitor in Fukuoka, but also anxious that maybe my suitcase was lost too. Yet, a member of staff at reception kindly and calmly helped me calling the airport and told me what to do. The rest of the stay was peaceful and relaxing thanks to the beautiful onsen (thank you for the nice touch offering a range of shampoos and conditioners!) and stunning breakfast (one of the best I have had in a 4* hotel! I loved discovering Fukuoka specialities and try so many fresh products!) I have already recommended this hotel...
