Hakuba Gateway Hotel — Hotel in Hakuba

A slightly mixed experience.

Pros: Booking process was extremely smooth and you feel looked after in the run up. Beds were nice is good how they arrange ski hire for you. Free Breakfast is decent, even if they blast electro-pop music at quite a volume 😂 Good location near to the Happo One gondola lift and even nearer to the Nakiyama chair lifts (recommend going there instead to validate lift passes as it's a shorter walk and you can ski to the main gondola) AC in room + bath means you can stay warm and toasty after a long day out in the cold. Friendly staff

Cons: WiFi was pretty nonexistent in my room on the 4th floor, so I ended up using lots of mobile data. Both the tumble dryers weren't working, so I ended up washing a bunch of my clothes and then wasn't able to dry them, so I had to hang loads of wet clothes up in my room. When I asked a member of staff about the dryer, they told me they knew that one of the dryers was broken but that it was news to them that both were broken. They hadn't put a sign up or anything. I wouldn't have tried to do any laundry if I knew the dryers weren't working.

great location and the rooms are surprisingly spacious. the front desk staff are all youngsters working seasonally. the location is extremely central close to happo ski resort and the happo bus terminal which makes it a great spot to catch the shuttle to other resorts in the area. there is a great pizzeria inside the hotel which makes it worthwhile.
