Hiroshima is associated with delicious Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki but Hiroshima oysters are equally incredibly delicious and huge. When I visit Hiroshima I usually go to okonomiyaki shops located around Alice Garden near Parco and of course the building full of okonomiyaki shops called Okonomimura.
I guess I always had my sights set on eating Hiroshimayaki but just at the first floor of Okonomimura is a shop called Kaki Ichiban 牡蠣一番 and gosh golly I am so glad I went there! It was so good I went twice!
First time on 30Apr I wasn’t too hungry but I couldn’t decide so I just got the 9 assorted GRILLED🦪: Plane ✈️ lemon, negi momiji oroshi ponzu, gratin, spicy, crab miso, Rockefeller, okonomiyaki, seaweed cheese, tomato miso. Unbelievably tasty! I ordered Horaitsuru sake to accompany the 🦪. They have cute little 🦪 figures, and plush 🦪 pillows so those had to get in the photos. 🥹
Second time on 6May I was famished so I first ordered the 6 assorted RAW🦪: Plane ✈️ lemon, negi momiji oroshi ponzu, cocktail sauce, plum bonito, Yamagata soup stock, and Salmon Roe (Ikura costs ¥300 more but worth it!) Wow what a feast! Then I ordered the GRILLED🦪!!! This time I came prepared with my own illuminated oyster figure that I got at a Gachapon machine. The Hiroshima Sempuku Kakisyuwa sparkling sake truly did pair well with my feast of 15 🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪🦪 😳🥹😍 If you are in Hiroshima and you ❤️🦪 you must go here! I will go back in Sep/Oct so will go here multiple times! American oysters are so pathetic...
Read moreGetting oyster in Hiroshima is a must. We didnt realize before coming here it was such a staple. They're absolutely enormous. They also have their own hot sauce that you can likely get from most grocery stores in Hiroshima but we purchased at this restaurant. I think it was around ¥700, which is on the cheaper side for hot sauce where I'm from. The salmon roe oyster was an extra charge but was absolutely drowning in roe, a little too much for our personal taste but others may disagree. Like many places similar to this in Japan, there's a "drink cover charge" which is fine because most of the drinks of fairly inexpensive.
Service was pretty quick considering they were full and the staff looked like they were all having...
Read moreA popular chain restaurant that specializes in oyster, Specialty Ouster First is conveniently located in the same building housing all the Okonomi Yaki restaurants. I came on a Saturday at 13:30 but there was still a line. Obviously you can make a reservation but I did not have one. I managed to secure a spot for one in less than 40 minutes so it wasn’t bad.
The ¥1500 set is perfect for one. The warm oysters were fresh and full of umami juice. Absolutely delicious. Plus they were really big.
The raw oysters I ordered were also fresh despite being smaller. The flavor is more intense, good with bubbly
The waiter was nice and could speak English. I was offered a complimentary pastry at checkout, which I believed...
