Stayed here over a year ago now but my friend and I still rave about the experience - this was one of our top hotel stays during our entire month long trip!
The rooms were just large enough, and the inclusion of the storage lockers really helped to make the room feel less cramped with our travelling gear.
While initially the shared bathroom concept had me a bit worried, this turned out to be quite a silly fear, as all areas of the bathroom were always immaculately clean and so large!!! There was always plenty of room to get ready / wind down. Plus, major bonus that all necessary amenities (PJs, towels, etc.) were included with the booking.
All of this plus an incredibly convenient location directly across from the station? Can't ask for more! When I (hopefully) return to Kumamoto, I won't even bother looking for another hotel, I'll be booking back at the Gate for sure, and will continue to recommend it to any friends giving...
Read moreHad a great stay, bike rental from 0800-2200 is 500yen, and bikes are bigger than most wouldn't be good for super tall people. Customer service was great. The first night was awesome respectful people and I slept amazing 2-3rd night because there's no roof and loud people turned up eating in rooms or playing with plastic til 0000 and then having loud conversations in the room areas late at night and super early in the morning.. so that was not great. The earplugs did help, though. Location is amazing amu plaza open til 10pm I believe and has supermarket n lots of shopping and a ton or restaurants. Tram, bus, sightseeing bus, airport bus, train all near by. Also has baggage storage before and after. The lounge area can get quite busy at night, there are eating areas, relaxing areas, charge ports, bar, one microwave and vending machine for beer etc all cash only I believe. Aside from the noise, great rooms...

There's no door in the room just curtains at the entrance and your bed. You can expect noises from inconsiderate guests and automatic door (my first room was near the entrance so I requested to move) Toiletries and PJs are free to grab at the bathrooms which are separate for men and women. All showers are private with a spacious dry area.||Location is just opposite to Kumamoto JR and tram station. Very convenient to travel around. There's also a bar inside the hotel which welcomes non-guests. I think it's a bit unsafe as you don't need a key or anything to get into...
