One of my highlights during a recent trip to Kyoto. Right across the street from my hotel, so very convenient! The food was heavenly, the presentation was beautiful and staff were lovely. Two of us chose a the set menus which worked out around £30/40 GBP, and were worth every penny. The other two in our group are vegetarian and had quite a wide selection to pick from to build a meal. Slight delay with some of the components of my friend’s meal - the beef and rice were very late to come out, but when we reminded staff they were helpful and it was corrected. We sat in a private dining room to the back of the ground floor, near the kitchen door. Was nice to have that space and easy to attract the attention of the staff when needed. A great way to spend our last evening in the city....

The beef is very good, but the food is more being assembled by some rather excitable and inexperienced folk, rather than skilled cookery - sitting in front of the chef and there are zero food /cooking smells.
The food also has very little taste, and has a slightly cringey vibe where they give all tourists handouts with local phrases. The tastiest things were the beef, the sake lees miso soup and the tofu. Everything else was forgettable, tempura chewy and everything arrives all at once which looks impressive but just means you can’t eat things in order and everything hot gets cold and or soggy….
The staff are trying hard and are enthusiastic but for authentic tasty food, best...
Read moreWagyu Kajia is on a side street off one of the busier main streets Kyoto. It happened to be across from our hotel.
It is a lovely restaurant with nice Japanese austere details. Great care has gone in to the restoration of an old authentic building.
The friendly staff welcome you and will help you with the menu. The pictures of the choices help too. My husband and I got one of Wagyu Kaijia’s multi-course specials including sashimi. It was a great experience. We plan to eat there again during our stay and will try the Fabulous beef that melts in your mouth.
The owner, Cosy will welcome you. Don’t miss out on one of Kyoto’s fine Japanese restaurants. Cosy, we loved meeting you and your nice helpful...
