Glad I was able to experience staying at a Machiya during my trip. I booked this a month before coming and this was the only option left for the duration of stay in Kyoto. I was a bit worried because it seemed to be a bit more modern than the others, but I still enjoyed it when I arrived. The foyer had nice natural light coming in, the garden was really cute. The bedroom was well lit. It was a bit hot in the bedroom and I had to turn the fan on to max setting and was a bit loud. It was raining on the day that I came so it was great to just stay indoors. The price is also quite cheap for the space you get. I definitely recommend staying at a Machiya when you come to Kyoto.

There are a few heaters and air-conditioning units but they struggled to remove the chill. If you have young children or any mobility problems you should be aware there is a steep staircase and the bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom...
Read moreCheck-in is close to Kyoto station, and they offer to drop bags in the property. The property is very close to a train station that is 2 stops from Kyoto station. Place is super clean and my kids loved having the japanese feel. Comfy beds, a/c, close to public transportation and you actually feel you're partaking in the culture. 3 convenience stores a couple blocks away and plenty of restaurants.
Highly...
