10.05.2017 Short It was the best meal I've had in years.
Story I went to this place because I was supposed to go to a place named 'Abura soba' but it was closed for some reason. Tsurukame only had 10 reviews but The average was 5/5. I've never had Japanese Ramen before, the reviews were very positive, the restaurant is close to Kawaramachi station, seemed ideal for us overall. It took us a while but we found it. There were two locals in line so it took a while for us to get in. When it was our turn to get in, there were 8 people in line after us.They were all Japanese which got us thinking this should be great. We got in after half an hour, ordered tantan tzukemen and umakara ramen both with additional chashu and soft boiled egg. I enjoyed it so much I was grateful for my life and thought this meal alone was worth this visit.
Details the ramens were about 880 yen They let you choose the amount of noodles (100+soft boiled egg, 150g, 200g no additional price and free extra noodles). I highly recommend you add chashu and soft boiled egg which is 250 but totally worth it. There are 8 seats, two people were in line and waited about 30 minutes to get in when two of us got there around 8pm. Most ramen soup from menu was based on fish, pork and chicken.
This is all I can remember. I thank the 10 people who...
Read moreBoth husband and daughter are ramen buffs so my family of 4 endured the 25 minute wait to secure spots inside the tiny eatery. The moment we entered, the owner sternly told us that each spot at the table was only for dining patrons. Fine, we had no problem with that. But could our 9 year old son stand in the corner while waiting for us to eat? He said no, our 9 year old son was not allowed in the restaurant altogether! How about he stand just outside the door and wait for us? No as well. Coming from Australia this to us was totally absurd. Where did he expect us to leave a child who is a foreigner and speaks NO Japanese whatsoever? He put his pointer to his lips and again sternly said that we were not to talk. That his place was “for his people.” I’m sure part of this was lost in translation and I will give him the benefit of the doubt for that, but telling a QUIET 9 year old to just get lost??? I couldn’t really enjoy the noodles after that exchange. I felt that he was expecting me to just wolf it down and be gone. Review...
Read moreWent there at 12pm on a weekend. No one was in queue. Very tiny hole-in-the-wall kind of jap eatery, located at the first corner of the shopping street; difficult to find. The super unfriendly server/cook could speak little english but got annoyed/frustrated at us. Did not appreciate that his tone was rude, when he clearly knew we were tourists (because i answered in english when he asked how many pax which i assumed was what he was asking) and did not understand Japanese. Anyway, the noodles were hard, some would say al dente and sauce was just so-so only. The smell of the bonito is very very strong. Many locals patronise and because its a hole in the wall, max 8 pax. After the extremely uncomfortable experience, I do not recommend this place! Very sure there are other eateries that are friendlier and more delicious as well. Overall, a very disappointing experience expected from the Japanese level of service. Only locals are...
