This is a very small boutique hotel in central Kyoto - about a 10-15 minute walk to two different subway stations and 15 minute walk from a JR station. Many good restaurants within walking distance and about 15 minute walk from Kyoto's famed Nishiki Market shopping/restaurant area. Our room was spacious, especially for Japan standards. We had two full sized beds made up as one giant king (technically larger than an American king bed). There was also a decent sized sitting area with table where we watched "TV" on our laptop, excellent WiFi. We also opted to have our breakfast in our room each morning, which was perfect. Nothing like a comforting Western style breakfast delivered to your room every morning at the time of your choosing. The hotel staff was extremely courteous and attentive. Every time I called for ice or extra water, someone was at my room within minutes. It was also extremely easy to have our luggage shipped to the hotel from Tokyo, which arrived a day before we did and they stored it for us and was then waiting in our room when we arrived. They also took care of shipping our luggage back to Tokyo for us on our departure (about $20 USD, completely worth not having to deal with large luggage on the shinkansen). ||||The one small negative I will bring up, is that some of the staff lets on that they understand more English than they actually do - it took us a few misunderstandings to realized this. Not a huge issue, but when asking for recommendations on restaurants, sometimes it was difficult to get across exactly what kind of food/atmosphere we were looking for. But ultimately, we enjoyed each place they recommended. Overall, I would certainly recommend this hotel, we had...
Read moreThis intimate, modern and stylish hotel was our favourite on our recent travels in Japan. We are a family of four (two late teenage boys), needing two rooms. The hotel has two rooms on each floor and we had the second floor to ourselves, so it was very private. The rooms were a little larger than average for Japan, so that was welcome - and nicely appointed with textile finishes on walls and ceilings. Beds were comfortable and the rooms kept very clean. The hotel is in a convenient central location, easy walking distance to subway, the centre of town, restaurants and the major tourist attraction Nijo Castle. The low-rise inner suburban street position places you closer to the local day-to-day activity. A special mention goes to the staff for their level of service - both in the lead up to our arrival and during our stay. Long before we arrived in Kyoto, we were in contact with the hotel about day tours and events. They helped us with both recommendations and bookings, right down to practical advice on travel times between sites. Throughout, we found the staff to be friendly, attentive and they were always on-hand (24/7). We didn't get to see and do everything we wanted to in Kyoto (there is just so much), so when we come back we'll definitely be staying at Villa...
Read moreWe booked 4 nights from Villa Aneyakoji and enjoyed all of them. The villa was located on a quiet street close to subway station and bus stops. Several restaurants nearby. The room had lot of space and was very tidy.|As said, we booked the room from Villa Aneyakoji however the sign outside the entrance said Villa Mayu Grace. The check in was made at the hotel Mayu Grace located around the corner. Little bit confusing, but we found our way in and the staff was very friendly.|The hotel didn't offer any breakfast, but they gave few recommendations on restaurants closeby. We chose 7-Eleven option 200m...
