Great location and a 15-minute walk from Osaka station. The hotel is easy to find if you walk through the covered shopping arcade directly across from the station. The walk through the arcade is interesting, as well. When you get to the end of the arcade, cross the road with the flyover and continue along the main road for a couple of minutes till you reach a large deli. The hotel is located in the side street across the main road from this deli. Our room (#315) was overall fine but overlooked the side street (in front of the hotel) which had a number of neon signs that beamed bright throughout the night and into the room despite the dark drapes. This could be a problem for those sensitive about sleep conditions. If so, ask for a room not in this part of building or carry a sleeping eye mask. The street is quiet, however, so no issue regarding noise. The room is OK sized by Japanese standards (two of us with a medium-sized bag each were comfortable) but the bath is a bit of a squeeze. However, there is a spacious hot tub bathing facility which can be booked for private use and the staff is meticulous about you getting your time here without any disturbance – not even a knock on the door. All the facilities are clean but not fiendishly so. Breakfast is included in the room rate and even if you get in late, everything in the breakfast line-up is available and in plenty. This includes bread, croissants, boiled eggs, a mix of salad vegetables, a variety of salad dressings with which you can make great sandwiches putting together the eggs and veggies, coffee, tea and milk, and may be fruit juice (I am not sure about this as I do not have juice for breakfast but I think I saw jugs with fruity looking liquid). There is free internet (the keyboard of the computer which also has Japanese characters will take some getting used to but is manageable to download your pics into your laptop or the like to free up your camera chip) and a washing machine and dryer. If you are crisscrossing the country as we were, this is a perfect place to recoup and recover on a budget. The deli across the main road has delicious, reasonably priced stuff for meals as well as a spacious area within with tables and chairs where one can eat at leisure -- unusual for Japan. The front-desk staff is friendly and held our luggage from check-out at 11 am until 6 pm for our train to Fukuoka without any charge giving us an extra hands-free day to...

Read moreCame from Osaka station and after exiting the underground mall, as were walking towards the hotel..the shops near the hotel were those 18+ patrons only. Knew it was a sleazy neighborhood. ||||No problem checking in to the hotel but once we entered the room...immediately we wanted to leave. The room stank of smoke, in the sheets, carpet everywhere. When we booked, it stated in their description "non-smoking". Went down to reception request for non-smoking room...was told the whole hotel is a smoking establishment.||||Called the booking agent and immediately canceled and refunded the room charges. Booked another hotel just a few street over on a very good busy convenient location. Very good rooms and a more comfortable feel overall.||||In and out of Maruichi...
