Due to a change of plan, our grand children did not join us at this hotel which was a pity. The bunker beds are clearly designed for families with young children. As with most Japanese hotels, the facilities are ample and well maintained.|What bothered me was the owner who was a tourism ambassador not that long ago. Despite some reviews saying how helpful he was, I found the contrary. He advice was stock standard and I don't feel the genuine desire to help at all. Here are a few accounts of what I was not satisfied with:|When we checked in, we gave the owner a list of three tempura restaurants that we researched beforehand and asked if he could help us make a booking. He only rang through one which happened to be closed for holidays but the other two he did not bother to keep trying to call them. I had been to Japan for around 20 times, and this is the first time that I could not book a restaurant through the hotel that I stayed in.|The following morning, we asked for advise for breakfast. Despite telling him that we had been in Sapporo twice before, we were still told to go to the Nijo market, a must go place for all tourists.|When we checked out, we sought his help to get a taxi. His told us to walk a few blocks on slippery road (I am sure he was aware that I was limping due to a fall few days back) as the taxi companies would not respond during busy hours! How...
Read moreMr Toshi ( owner) was very helpful and welcoming on arrival and departure. He also addressed some minor issue raised promptly and offered advice on good eats around the area which is aplenty.
The room is well furnished, clean and in particular having a dedicated washing machine and a fully functioning bathroom with dehumidfier function means clothes get dried overnight . Very useful for family with children and has to pack light/ wash clothes frequently. One thing though , cleaning during the stay is not available ( fresh towels provided daily) and some DIY to keep the room clean for long stays may be needed. But this is reflected in the competitive pricing of the room.
location-wise, it’s a short walk(5 mins) from the main Susukino area but because of the underground walkway links, my family had relied extensively on walking from the hotel to Susukino JR, Sapporo JR and Odori JR and vicinity which is great during winter. Lawson/convenience store is just across the street and allow you to grab quick snacks and drinks easily.
There are hotels with better location ( in the heart of Susukino) if leisure walking is not preferred and hence the 4 star rating...
Read moreWe stayed here as a party of 11 (booked 3 rooms) for 3 days and all of us left extremely satisfied with the service and amenities provided. The rooms are equipped with washing machine, stove, a nice balcony, bunk beds that are easy(and safe) to climb and other things you would expect from a hotel/apartment. Everything is extremely neat and tidy and the building is in a convenient location that is near the tourist attractions of sapporo by commute or walking distance. The owner is also very nice and friendly, making small talk with us and helping us find bus routes when we needed help. Overall, The Base Sapporo Susukino is a great stay for both small and large families. We had a very pleasant experience and I highly reccomend this place if you plan to...
