tl;dr: Excellent service by everyone at the MINX Shibuya team for this walk in customer who came in with a terrible haircut from America and can't speak Japanese. My hair designer (DAIICHI IKEZAWA) gave me a haircut that makes me feel beautiful even when it's not styled.
I decided at the last minute that I wanted a hair cut during my Tokyo trip. MINX salon was just down the street from where I was and I hoped that they would be able to take me as a walk in with no reservation.
When I arrived, I was kindly greeted by the front desk. They were able to accommodate me despite the salon being very busy.
I was lucky to be matched with DAIICHI IKEZAWA. I communicated using my phone translator that I wanted a layer cut that would look good with minimal styling. He showed me a picture of a cut that fit my description and once I confirmed that was what I was looking for, he got started.
His technique, kindness, and professionalism was far beyond what I had experienced in the US. When I explained that I was terrible at styling my own hair, he even taught me blowdryer and curling techniques in simple Japanese to make it easier for me.
I was beyond thrilled with the result. My haircut looks great styled, not styled, right when I wake up in the morning, and even after walking around all day in wind and humidity.
I plan on flying back to Tokyo (yes, all 10 hours) to see Daiichi-san for my haircuts in the...
Read moreI got my hair cut, dyed, and a treatment done by Ryusei Iwatani about 2 weeks ago. I LOVE my hair! I don't know what kind of magic he did to it but it looks so pretty - even if I don't style it. Normally, I had to carefully style my bangs each morning for my hair to look decent. But now, even if I air dry my hair (bangs included), my hair look so nice!
My hair looks and feels healthy despite getting it bleached. And I never knew a short hair cut could suit my face shape - did I say I love my haircut? I've also gotten so many compliments! 😬
I was very nervous going into my appointment because I don't speak Japanese, I've never dyed my hair professionally before, and I am a generally nervous person (LOL). But all the staff were so helpful, accommodating, and friendly. I really appreciated Ryusei Iwatani's attention to detail and care in everything he did - from the consultation, cutting, dyeing, styling, even shampooing! He was so gentle and careful and detailed!
I highly recommend going to him for a cut and dye. He gives off the same vibes in person as he does on his social media.
Now I just need to figure out how to get to Japan in time for my next haircut...
Read moreEveryone is really nice and kind but the service and competence was sadly lacking. I did the Tokio Inkarami treatment. I have done this treatment many times before at other salons in NYC, Tokyo, and Singapore, and it’s always taken many steps and at least 40 minutes. Here, they skipped some key steps and rushed through the process — everything took less than 20 minutes and there was no post-heat treatment. Also, importantly, the heat machine they put on my hair was broken and produced no heat. I don’t know if the treatment was effective at all so it was a total waste of money and time.
The washer was also very rough with my hair and tugged it many times so overall it’s possible that my hair quality is worse. I am grateful for how nice everyone is but I wouldn’t recommend this place for hair treatments since they seem to skip steps and the stylist didn’t seem knowledgeable about the process. They also didn’t have the stylist I requested available. Too bad.
Edit: now that I’ve washed my hair, I can tell my hair is definitely not the same quality it normally is after the Tokio treatment....
