The location is the best which just one minute walking distance to the bus terminal to/from Toya Station and in front of the ferry pier. Please see my photo. Perfect location. The front desk receptionist lady was friendly. I was placed to a lake view Japanese style room. It doesn't include shower but toilet in the room and it looks like old but I love the room. The view from the room's window to Lake Toya was excellent. I love my room's window can be opened, I could see more clear to the lake view and to have fresh air from outside by opening the window. Even it was a raining day, cloudy and frosty. The view is still spotless good. The service was good. The room was clean, tidy and come with all necessity, but bath/shower excluded. However, based on the price, I was happy with it because I don't mind to use the bathroom in the onsen area on floor one. There was only two down side that I found: First, the male onsen area floor was sticky and slippery with moss (My left hand accidentally touched it and my hand was sticked with moss in outdoor onsen area) that includes indoor and outdoor area. I wish they would take more effort to the cleanliness of onsen area. Second, the suana was not available for customer to use. However, I had a fantastic sauna and onsen in 万世閣 (a hotel where is just a few minutes walk away from Toya Grand Hotel) by a paying walk in onsen fee(1300 yen) for non-resident. So, it didn't affect me much. Overall, my experience was good. I would give Toya Grand Hotel 8 out of 10. I love Toya Grand Hotel. I would...
Read moreWhile travelling alone in Sapporo, I spent one day roaming around part of Lake Toya area. With the intention of staying one night there, I booked this hotel. Not the kind of luxurious one as those nearby, since I considered it not worth to spend twice or more on one night’s short stay. This hotel reached this need of mine in term of room rate. With rate at this level came my low expectation. I arrived before noon, checked in and was led by a staff to a Washitsu (room of Japanese style). Surprise came once I stepped into the room. It was a spacious room and a big table was put in the center, a solo sofa was in the balcony (enclosed though) with sufficient natural light in. Interior decors and furniture arrangement reminded me of those sho-wa period films I watched-real Japanese vibe. This should be highlighted and recommended. And all the rooms are facing Lake Toya.|Besides room, the location is also a pro. It’s located in a neighborhood with shops, restaurants and convenience stores, and the Lake Toya bus station is only 5 minutes’ walk.|This hotel is not a recently built one, some facilities are outdated like I had to go to the onsen area (Onsen area is traditional with both indoor and outdoor pools) to take a shower since there’s no in-room shower/bathroom facilities. And a kind of strange smell permeated in the whole hotel guess due to it’s not modern any more.|I presumed it a popular hotel once when there were no nearby luxurious hotel...
Read moreStayed overnight in mid September with a room that looked over the lake. Staff were friendly when we parked and registered. The public bath was small and old but clean. Problems started when we alerted the manager to a problem with their toilet. At first we thought it was just water that we splashed outside of the sink by accident but then when went to wipe it up we noticed that the toilet paper was stained a not-very-pretty colour... flushed the toilet again and noticed it was leaking. Manager came by, saw it, acknowledged the problem and insisted that the repairman couldn't come that night and that he had no spare rooms in the place. Don't know if he was just giving us a load of bull or if he was really stuck in a bind but for the price they were charging we definitely expected a toilet that flushed properly. Food was mediocre compared to some other traditional dinners we'd had at other Japanese hotels. Would not ...
