Matsumaeya — Restaurant in Toyako

We absolutely loved this restaurant. It is family run and it is beautiful watching different generations work together. Both the elder and younger generations speak good enough English and welcome tourist.

The restaurant has beautiful Japanese decorations. We ate in the counter which was very comfortable. We ordered the chicken wings which had crispy skin but were juicy and tender in the inside. My boyfriend ordered the tonkatsu omelette curry and I ordered the tonkatsu meal set. Both were extremely delicious. The servings were generous and oishii.

If we come back we will definitely try other items in the menu because everything looked delicious.

Felt the need to write this review as a tourist to warn others. We waited politely in the entranceway of this restaurant for 15 minutes, occasionally seeing staff glance our way, and no one made any effort to greet us or even acknowledge our presence. At first we thought they might just be extremely busy, but after waiting that long and seeing two customers leave, we weren’t sure what to think and just felt uncomfortable so we left. The place is probably very good, it looked cute and the food looked amazing, but they may not be willing to seat...

This place serves very authentic and inexpensive Japanese meal. 4 of us cost ¥10K with a main course each, plus extra plate of salmon sashimi, 1 small bottle of hot sake and biru. 1 Scallop Bowl 1 Totkatsu (Fried Pork) Meal 2 Salmon Sashimi 1 Assorted Sashimi

The scallop bowl, which cost only ¥1.650, is overflowed with fresh scallop!

We love the super fresh salmon sashimi, that's why we ordered another plate.
