Hinata-an — Hotel in Yufu

Very pleasant to look at and to stay in. One large living area is converted to fit 3x double beds and one two seater sofa. Bedding and pillows are only prepared for the exact number of guests. Some of the furniture shows signs of wear from previous guests.

Lots of information for the various facilities in different languages are posted in the relevant areas to guide guests. The washing machine/dryer is especially useful.

Lake Kinrin is just a short stroll away using the back lane. Can be creepy at night.

The check in process was "smart check-in", where guests receive the passcode to the room via email. Unfortunately, I didn't receive any email (not in junk/spam either), and was stuck outside the room, trying to call a call center that had already closed for the day. There was also no reply to the email I had sent via the Trip app. In the end, I had to ask the guest staying in another room for the phone number of the person directly in-charge of the facility, so that I could call them to get the password and check-in code. The facility exceeded my expectations, but the check-in process due to the missing email was too stressful and unpleasant. Kagetsu, the room with modern beds, has an open air bath that looks clean in the photos avaliable on the booking website. However, the actual bath is very dark and with a lot of black substance (owner said that those are minerals from natural hot spring water). Owner needs to upload latest photos of the bath for potential customers to make an informed decision.

Botan, the room with Japanese styled bed. One of the bedsheet is not washed /changed. Nasal mucus (鼻糞) and chocolate were found on it. I think it is not washed as both can be removed using wet tissue.
