Bankara Yufuin — Restaurant in Yufu

This restaurant is hidden in a deeper area of Yufuin, away from the busy touristy area. A married couple run the restaurant with great hospitality. English menu is available. The food for lunch is home cook style set.

We ordered pork ginger and warm udon. The udon is surprisingly coming in a hot bath bowl. We gave it a nickname onsen udon, because we guessed the water is hot spring water. But aside from the cute look, it tastes super good. The udon is soft but chewy. The sauce is not salty and the yusu chilli enhanced the flavor. Pork ginger is great too. But udon is something special.

The food was so good and enjoyable so we needed to order the 3rd set, beef hamburg and it didn't disappoint us. The meat is juicy while the coatings remain crispy.

This restaurant offers truly authentic Japanese cuisine, personally prepared by two skilled grandparents. I discovered their Instagram and was impressed to find that they grow most of their own vegetables, which they then incorporate into their menu.

Opting for the Sardine set, I was presented with a visually stunning dish. The taste was delightful; even the pickled radish and other accompanying side dishes were spot on. The only minor hiccup for me was the miso soup, which didn't quite align with my taste.

Sensational experience getting take out tonight. I was staying nearby, and wanted to walk somewhere. I am so glad this place was close; it made my weekend! The owner spoke some English and volunteered to let me order off menu when I asked about tofu. She asked of if I was vegan, which I am, and then went right to work preparing a meal for me. Her husband joined as well and together they asked me to try a few dishes and then ended up providing an additional salad and tea for free.
