Overall, my stay at this hostel was decent and it’s in a fantastic, centrally located position with a small corner store just down the street (I believe across from the Powder Tower if I recall correctly). The staff were helpful upon my arrival and thankfully was able to accommodate my early arrival from Tallinn. The front desk offered me a number of recommendations on where to visit, etc., and answered all of my questions. The facility was very clean and well-kept while I was there. I would recommend forgoing the breakfast as it was quite limited--would probably get more for your money on the economy. I regrettably did not check beforehand to ensure they would have air conditioning and therefore, had quite a number of hot, restless nights. All things were going well until the next to last day when my keycard stopped working on the front hotel entrance and my room. The staff attempted to rekey the card and it worked intermittently until it totally stopped locking the door. Since it didn’t work on both the front entrance and room, I suspected it was the keycard and had hoped they’d swap it out with a new one. Hereafter, I had to carry my valuables (i.e., laptop, headphones, jewelry, etc.) in my backpack as the room could not be locked and the lockers provided in the room required you to pay for the key/lock separately. Although the front desk offered to hold my belongings there, it would have been nice if they had offered a key/lock to one of the lockers without charge; alas, I must admit, I didn’t ask for it, but it would have been nice to have been offered. At one point, the individual on staff contacted the owner who informed him the battery probably needed replaced; however, he was unable to do so as they didn’t have the proper tool(s) to remove the key lock cover to change out the battery. He was informed the maintenance personnel will be right over to resolve the issue but when I returned in the evening from my city walkabout, the door was still unsecured. Upon check-out the following morning, the door lock had still not been fixed. If not for the entry/room door access issues, my stay here would’ve been uneventful, but not being able to secure my belongings nor secure the door to tour the city and when I went to bed was disconcerting. It’s in a great location, right across from Bastion Hill and if you like McDonald’s, its right next door. I do believe the staff tried to handle the situation but wasn’t empowered enough or provided the tools necessary by the owner to do so. Also, before I forget, I recommend Baltic Taxi (Green/White Taxi) as they have a fixed rate of 15€ to/from the airport to downtown; recommend having cash on hand as both times I used them, they didn't accept credit card; other taxis can be considerably more expensive as it doesn't appear their...
Read moreI booked a private room for 3 nights.||In brief:|Is a okish choice if you use good earplugs and you are not located near to services. And I suggest not choice breakfast.||Negative:|1. Noise: Corridors to showers/toilets are really noisy all time. Seems builded as floating floor or maybe are the materials that makes each person walking along is like an elephant in your room. So when you start sleeping, other person walk and you wake up again. Walls and floors are not isolated. Tip: buy good quality earplugs, solved for me, first night I haven’t any and barely sleep 3 hours in a row... so buy earplugs first.|2. Poor Breakfast: no fresh coffee, just white bread, cheap cheese, no eggs and so on. Seems they want to cover all people with the money of two clients and save left. Tip: use that money outside, if you are a couple or more people just go to supermarket and buy plenty of stuff and also save money. One of you can go down to grab decent coffee (are plenty of cafeterias) or just make a tea.|3. Corridors smells like rancid / sweaty foot.| |Could be improved:|1. Kitchen equipment: change rusty microwaves, add something to cook like vitro-ceramic or grill oven.|2. Light covering of room windows.|3. Customer awareness: indicating which areas you can speak / make noise and which ones to make absolute silence. The thing is, people are selfish, so they leave his room speaking loudly or screaming in the halls, don’t care ir some one is sleeping.||Neutral / Normal:|1. Proper cleaning on the room, smells normal and ventilated.|2. Bed clothes are clean.|3. Magnetic secure door lock by card.|4. Basic fine kitchen.||Positive:|1. Location: good and well communicated.|2. Rooms are separated from hostel and at the last floor. And are quite rooms good excepting by the noise issues mentioned before.|3. Facilities: good individual showers with a chair for leave your clothes. Drinkable filtered water. Tables and space for kids. Nice sofa and in general quite spacious for burn...
Read moreLovely service, we were checked in by Ms Victoria and she even agreed to show us the room first because I said I was sceptical due to the reviews. While I was booking, there was only a “bunk bed room available for 2” so I booked it as I was only sleeping here for the night. The best part it they have common rooms, a lovely kitchen, lots of seating area - but I’ve not seen the hostel rooms. I was on the 5th floor where mostly it was private rooms. There were also rooms with double beds on that floor. All rooms have sharing toilets, but they have hairdryers as well and drying racks and also you can pay for laundry and extra towels. I don’t think I’ve anything to complain about the room, it had chairs a table and 2 lockers and a massive window which could be kept open. There’s lots of shops outside and it’s RIGHT above a McDonald’s and there’s a nearby grocery shop that’s 24x7 and it’s right in the centre opposite the iconic Liberty statue.
THE PRICING IS UNBELIEVABLE!
Only downside is Very noisy outside due to the area, sharing bathrooms are visibly not dirty but smell awful quite often and missing toilet paper in some booths took forever to get replaced and same with soaps. Also the rooms will get hot during summers, and they don’t have a...
