Monterosso, restorāns — Restaurant in Riga

My husband made a reservation for dinner on Valentine's Day. We went expecting to have a romantic dinner. The atmosphere was nice with a live jazz band but the food was lacking. We ordered from a special menu specific for Valentine's Day. I ordered roast duck, while my husband ordered a traditional Italian pasta dish boasting fresh lobster and shrimp in a creamy sauce. The food arrived. My duck was decent but nothing more extraordinary that I couldn't cook at home. My husband's special pasta recommendation however, was served in a bowl the size of my small fist with a huge rim that made it appear to be a larger portion than what was as actually served. There was only one small cut piece of shrimp the size of a U.S. penny, zero lobster... and his meal alone cost €23! Being an American I would have politely told the manager that it was unsatisfactory but my Latvian husband said that simply isn't done in Latvia. I ended up feeding him my own meal and we both left hungry and unhappy that our special romantic evening was tainted. If you are looking for a good, traditional Italian meal look elsewhere. At Monterosso, our group of seven enjoyed a varied meal, though with some mixed experiences. We sampled several pesto pizzas, which, while good, fell slightly short of exceptional—more seasoning or a fresher crust could have elevated them. The highlight of our meal was the salad, which stood out for its vibrant flavors. The aromatic basil was particularly fresh and fragrant, perfectly complemented by a tangy vinegar that brought out the salad’s best qualities.

We also tried the chanterelle tagliatelle, which was decent but not remarkable. The tagliatelle itself was well-cooked, but the dish lacked a bit of flair. On the plus side, the chanterelles were yummy, adding a rich, earthy note that enhanced the dish. On the hunt for good Italian food we chose Monterosso, because of the reviews and pictures of the food in the internet. Once we arrived we were greeted at the door and our jackets were hanged for us. We were able to choose the table of our liking and received tablets to view the menu. We decided for our orders and received a bucket with different bread and focaccia and the waitress made a dip for both of us (what a great service!). The food we got was amazing in taste and appearance.(bruschette; burrata; bolognese; risotto with tiger prawns) The service was exceptional and all our wishes were cared for.
