Decor is very modern and cool both in the lobby itself and the room. We enjoyed the checkin process of just entering your given code on a keypad to retrieve your key. Albeit the key pad was not calibrated well so it took a few attempts! The rooms are numbered in order with 1 and 2 being on the first floor and so on. The welcome macaron and personalised letter was a nice touch. ||The room faced the street. We stayed on a Thursday night and trying to get to sleep was difficult due to the noise from the bar below while it remained open and we were woken up by street noise (people shouting after pubs) even with the windows closed. You can also hear your upstairs neighbours walk around. If you are a light sleeper, something to bear in mind. In addition this, we were woken up in the morning by a staff member knocking our door several times to retrieve the iron and mini ironing board we had used the previous evening. We did not appreciate this, considering we were not asked to hand this back when given it.||The air con either did not work or not very strong. Unsure as there were no instructions on how to operate. ||I really liked the brass fixings in the bathroom however the hot water fixing at the sink was lose. The toiletries provided were lovely, they smelt really nice, however there was no shelf or indent in the wall in the shower to take these in with you so they either sat on the floor or you had to lean over the toilet to get to them. No space for a toilet roll holder either so that sat out also. In a wet room this wasn’t ideal. ||Ideally we would have booked a bigger apartment however due to availability on the day this wasn’t possible as the Number 2 apartment was too small for us and our travelling cases. I couldn’t find a place to get ready with good lighting so ended up sitting on the floor and using my own mirror. I think this apartment is more of a weekend stay for locals with little luggage! ||The bed was really comfortable and the sheets felt lovely and soft. I was apprehensive about a mattress on the floor but very impressed with how comfortable it was, the size and it really fit the vibe of the room.||There is wifi available however we found it dropped out quite a lot, trying to watch a show on Netflix on the tv was difficult as it cut out several times. Perhaps since the building is old the wifi struggles with the walls.||We booked directly on the hotels website as we found that to be the best rate and that way you know the hotel gets the full cut of the income. Our booking came with €24 breakfast allowance per room. We were emailed in advance of the stay to ask where we wanted this served (lobby, terrace or room) and what time. ||On arriving in the lobby at allocated breakfast time the male owner and manager were sitting in the lobby however neither acknowledged our presence - occupied with their business conversation. Once we did get a member of staff to notice us, we ordered eggs Benedict’s each and a coffee each - this took us up to our €24 allowance. The eggs Benedict’s looked amazing however didn’t really hit the spot. The sauce particularly was lacking in that usual vinegar signature hollandaise taste, and we didn’t think the uncooked spinach and cucumber additions added much to the dish, however we appreciate this was their take on eggs Benedict.||Whilst seated for breakfast and checking out, the female owner was present in the lobby, but again no acknowledgement was made. For a small place, with only 8 rooms, it could be more personable. The lobby appears to be used as an office for the senior members of staff aswell as for guests breakfast which can make you feel uncomfortable, like you are in their way.||Overall a very pleasing on the eye place to stay, I would recommend staying in a larger room and perhaps taking breakfast in your room or on...
Read moreOn arrival, late on a snowy night, the hotel made a great first impression; beautifully decorated entrance, it smelled amazing and was toasty warm as soon as we stepped inside. There is no out of hours reception but the code emailed in advance gave us straightforward access to the building and the key to our room. We stayed in room 8 - Soloist which I selected because of the grand piano! The views of the city rooftops were lovely too. The suite is large and comfortable. Bedding and amenities were high end and everything felt luxurious. It was extremely peaceful and we enjoyed the giant bath tub. Even though it was between -10 and -21 for the duration of our stay, it was always warm and cosy inside. I think it would be possible to easily add some more conveniences without compromising the design aesthetic - for example a small chest of drawers or more hanging space to make unpacking easier. The hooks in the bathroom were too close to the toilet to really be usable and there were no coffee cups, plates or cutlery (although I’m sure they would have been provided if I’d asked). Also some instructions on the taps would be useful as it took me three days to figure out how to reliably turn off the shower - possibly just me however!! Anyway, these were only minor issues which didn’t spoil our stay and would be very easy to fix. We ordered our breakfast online each day for the following morning so we could change the time depending on our plans. It all worked perfectly and we enjoyed our food which was high quality and well presented. All the staff we encountered were lovely and we really appreciated them going the extra mile to make sure we had some cold breakfast provided in advance of our early start when leaving. The location of this hotel is also noteworthy, in the heart of the old town, steps from the square and easy walking distance to the castle and just about everywhere else really. Being so close to the beautiful Christmas tree as the snow was falling made our stay really magical! We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others as long as they don’t mind that it is a unique, boutique experience and not a full service hotel (something that was made clear...
Read moreMy wife and I spent the weekend in apartment number 6, and here are the pros and cons of our stay.
Pros: The staff was amicable. The location was great. The bed was very comfortable.
Cons: There was no wardrobe with shelves in the apartment to put our clothes in. Our bedroom had only 8 hangers on a pipe, so we had to keep the rest of our clothes in our luggage as we didn't want to put our clothes on the floor. The bedroom needed to be better lit, making it difficult to find our clothes. Even with the light under the bed turned on, it was still dark, and we had to use our phones to see in the room. We have never had to use our phones as a source of light in a hotel room before. The lights next to the bedroom did not have a light bulb. The shower floor heating was broken, so the towels were always dry, and the floor was very slippery. The breakfast food looked delicious and nicely presented but could have tasted better. The ingredients didn't blend well together, resulting in a lack of taste. We had to carry our luggage to the third floor as no elevator was available. While it wasn't a major inconvenience for us, I couldn't help but wonder how elderly guests would manage without any staff to assist them.
The staff did bring us a light bulb and new towels the next day, but they still needed to manage to fix the floor heating.
Overall, we would not recommend this place, and we would not come back. It is definitely not...
