Unfortunately, the hotel I wanted originally was fully booked for my dates, so I chose the Hof Hotel. |The first thing I can say is that this is by no means a 4* hotel!|This is located in the middle of 3 neglected car parks. Yes, it is close to the famous avenue, but you have to dodge the broken paths and edges to get there.|Check-in was easy enough, and our room was ready earlier. |The lights in the hallway were not working, so the hallway was dark and uninviting.|On entering, we realised that this was more a 2* or 3* at best. |Way too much furniture in the room - lose the wardrobe, round table, and tub chair. They are not needed and if anything are a hazard, especially the glass table. |The central light didn't work in the room, so again, everything was dark.|The mattress had 2 toppers on it, which, in my opinion raised alarm bells as to what was underneath.|Bathroom was clean with handsoap provided but the pump didn't work so had to take the top off all the time.| No plug in the sink. To get into the bath/shower is a danger in itself- way too high and a thick edge to straggle, yes straggle to get in. I'm average height and I had to sit over the ledge to get in and out. I actually slipped getting out the first time.|There is no Smart TV in the room, which I found very odd, and only 1 English channel. Have always been able to stream netflix or prime when away but not here.|Breakfast was a disaster, no welcome or even a smile from the waitress. The food was so subpar that we didn't go back for the remaining 3 days and ate out for breakfast instead. 'Cold' hot food, dried up cold food, and jelly for breakfast! The yoghurts were already in bowls and left uncovered on a side table with the odd fly helping themselves.|The bedding/sheets were NOT changed for our whole 5 day stay! |We did get one change of towels but only after asking for clean ones.|The housekeeper also left her dirty cloth in our room for 3 days! It was only moved when the towels were replaced and yes we did put the sign on the door to service our room.|We loved Kaunas and will definitely return but not...

The room didn't have a minibar and the toiletries were only liquid soap. There was no regular tea or coffee, just green tea and a sugary instant coffee drink. When we asked for herbal tea and unsweetened coffee, they didn't provide it. The breakfast was very basic in the basement. The air conditioner blew directly on us, causing me to catch a cold. We couldn't control the air conditioner, and the view from the window faced another hotel's courtyard with trash bins, a car park, and a large electrical box. One of the receptionists was defensive and argumentative when we asked for coffee and herbal tea sachets and when we mentioned that the hotel didn't provide the service and facilities expected of a four-star hotel. As a result, we decided to move to another hotel the next day. Nearby are very nice four-star hotels which are true four-star hotels. The staff of the reception at Hof Hotel definitely needs customer...
Read moreThe Hof Hotel is okay but seems overrated as a four star hotel (it's more like a 3 star at best). The bed is comfortable and the shower is good. You do have to step up to get into the shower, though, which my wife found difficult (and she slipped and got bruised). There are rooms without a balcony on the ground floor and there is an elevator to get to the other rooms, but to reach the breakfast room in the basement, you must go down a flight of stairs. The staff are courteous and efficient. The breakfast is also good. If you are not a cigarette smoker the terraces are more of a negative than a positive. The smoke from other guests comes into your room. Also one morning I was awakened early by the loud hacking coughs of a smoker on a neighboring terrace. The location of the hotel is right off of the main pedestrian street [Laisves Aleja], which is great for walking and has many dining choices. At 2.5 Km. it's a bit far from the train station. The Town Hall Square is 1.7 km. as...
