Choral Synagogue — Attraction in Kaunas

Saw this on our way to somewhere else and decided to pop in and have a look.. Wr are always really interested to discover more about Jewish culture in the countries we visit.

Unfortunately this was a big disappointment. The caretaker was quite rude. We were asked for a 5 Euro "donation" per person. It did feel quite aggressive and a scam to demand money for visiting somewhere that is very rundown and definitely not a proper museum. There is VERY little to see here.

The Choral Synagogue in Kaunas is an amazing and important place to visit. The beauty of the remaining community and that of the building itself, coupled with Lithuanian Jewish history, make it an incredibly powerful place in which to daven.

However, whether you want to daven here or just take photos and learn about the history and community, this is a must see destination that alone is worth a trip...
