G FORTUNE GUEST HOUSE @ Church Street — Hotel in George Town

I Booked 2 types of Rooms here during the Festive period of Thaipusam, from 9th till 13th Feb 2025, this was done based on the reviews given by other guests, unfortunately it was a Terrible mistake to stay here.

What is good about this hotel?

1. Excellent Location, close by to Attraction Sights, Public Bus Services & Ample of Public Parking spaces, close to the hotel, paid RM6.00 for a Day's rate.
2. Wifi, Aircond & Water Heaters were great.
3. Water Dispenser was provided (Hot & Cold), Smart Tv, Fridge, Washing Machine & Induction Stove.

What is not good about the hotel & needs major improvement

1. Lobby, Sitting & Dining area with a small pantry located at the Ground Floor with 2 Bathrooms. There was no kitchen sink, had to use the sink next to the toilets. Limited crockeries n utensils given.
2. No microwave to heat up food. There was a Microwave n a Toaster by the Food Counter/Bar which looked like abandon & it was Filthy. According to the Housekeeping staff, those items were not attended for quite some time.
3. Was not able to log into YouTube as there was some setting issues with the Smart TV.
4. The rooms (located on 1st & 2nd floor) were relatively small, some with out windows, mine came with 2 Single Beds n 2 gym lockers, no mirror n no TV. The latch on lockers were broken, unable to secure our stuff.
5. The other room came with a Queen sized bed, No wardrobe or lockers to store any stuffs but had an attached bathroom with low water pressure. It had a full sized mirror n TV.
6. 3 common bathrooms with toilets were on the same floor, water pressure was good, but not really clean, there were fruit flies here n there. There were 3 sinks in the wash area, 2 were always clogged n the good one had water pressure problem.
7. If you want to sleep well with comfort, this is not the hotel. As some of the rooms are built on a wooden platform, you could hear food steps n tromping when people were around. I hardly had a good night sleep for those 2 nights except for the last night, all the other guests had checked out. The walls were thin as well, could here people chatting from other rooms.
8. Housekeeping came probably once a day to collect the rubbish n attend to the bathrooms, refill the toilet rolls n shower gel, I was not sure if she came during the PH.

Overall, it was indeed an unpleasant n bad experience staying here. I won't come again unless there are improvements. Major...

I would give 0 stars if possible.

Location is ok. The hotel is self check in and the instructions are not clear. I only managed to get in because there was someone outside when I arrived.

The hotel are not contactable. There is nobody at the hotel they just provide a WhatsApp number on the door but they do not even have it connected. Messages do not deliver and calls are not answered. Also no response by email. If you have an emergency situation you are on your own.

The room with a "private bathroom" has a toilet in a very small cupboard. The entrance to the room is also located inside of the shared bathroom so you will constantly be disturbed by other guests using the bathroom and you can even smell it from inside the room. The room also has no window so you will be stuck inside with the smell of other people's toilet habits.

The WiFi is absolutely terrible. The only place is works is in the lobby but if you sit there to use it you will spend all of your time letting other guests in as the keypad on the door doesn't work properly and also dealing with other guests who come down with issues because there are no staff there.

I booked this room for 5 days and requested to be refunded for the remainder of my stay which the hotel refused as they had offered me an alternative room (even worse than the first one)

I would rather lose the money than stay...

I booked 2 type of room (shared bathroom and private bathroom) within 3 night .

The shared bathroom unit , the wall way too thin I can even hear people on other side of the room talk. And the bathroom not on the same level so it gets very challenging to go up and down to the toilet with their steep stairs (I almost trip) but that room is clean.

As for room with private toilet. My worse nightmare. The moment I walk in the smell of damp wet sock so strong I couldn't sleep. Can see the some water ring from the ceiling. Also bcus the toilet has no ventilation. I appreciate the staff tried to help but they only gave me a freshener spray.

I don't mind the normal tax charges but this place charges me extra rm15 for linen bedsheet ? That has holes. Even the blanket looks overused look at the fabric material in the photo. I feel itchy all the time when I lay there . The TV cant even use and weak WiFi signal.

Only one good thing I can say is that the facility like the shares bathroom looks neat and organised with hairdryer and iron board. (Still I suggest closed dustbin, bcus it smells really bad with other people trash) also I get to refill water and use their...
