Macalister Hotel managed by The Ascott Limited — Hotel in George Town

We stayed here for our recent family trip. This hotel offers 2-rooms suite which is suitable for my boy to stay in the same "room". He has his own single bed room and we share the same kitchen and bathroom.

You will need to have one key card inserted to trigger on the power to the room so do what you need to keep the air condition on. The insulation is quite good and when we checked-in it wasn't stuffy non when we went out during the afternoon. But boy is the heat scorching in Penang. The room service will only make-up your room when you have your lights turned on. They are prompt in cleaning up the room. We noticed there were 2-persons to clean the room so the turnaround is quicker.

The staff are usually pleasant and polite. Housekeeping staff always has a smile on their face and greets you as you walk pass. The counter staff will also greet you if they are not otherwise occupied. They have a person tend to the door which was really nice especially if you hands are occupied by your shopping bags.

One thing I can't figure out is if the wifi account provided is only good for one device. We seems to have problem connecting for the 3 of us.

We were lucky to find out that Macalister Hotel has 2-bedroom rooms, and we liked the layout of the room and the amenities in the room. The kitchen sink and utensils were very useful for our dining in purposes, and the beds were comfortable.

We arrived at the hotel at around 10pm and the hotel staff was on hand to help us with a smooth check-in. The lobby area is peaceful and well decorated, and has lots of sofas and seats to rest while waiting for transport and other things.

The hotel is well positioned in Georgetown and it is easy to reach the various places of attraction from the hotel via Grab. If you have kids, do note that there is no proper drop-off point as there are usually cars parked along the side of the narrow road, so do be careful when boarding and alighting.

Some minor areas for improvement include: • Soundproofing of the bedroom near the entrance is not very good, so we can often hear other guests leaving and returning to their rooms. • The fire alarm went off by itself on 2 different nights, once at about 12.30am and once at about 5.45am. • You might find the wooden floor panels not very smooth, though it didn't bother me too much.
