I don't consider myself a very fussy eater and usually I am quite ok with lots of food in general. So it is rare for me to give ratings lower than 4 but let me explain why over here.
Ok, let us start with what I like first. The place is generally spacious with lots of tables and chairs so this is something I really like as even with larger than usual crowd, you can still get to seat and not wait in queue. Food selection wise, quite a lot to choose from, either the steam version or also the fried ones. I took both steamed and fried ones.
Now what I don't like. One of the steamed siew mai actually has thick and harden skins and to me this is a big no no👎. If this is just from a small hawker then then I probably understand but we are talking about a full fledge restaurant dim sum here so to me this is a big sin to commit. ;) Other than the in general the food taste ok and the chinese tea is the usual one too.
Price wise, I feel it is very expensive compared to the quality I am getting. Will I ban this place? Probably no as maybe I went on a bad day. Will I purposely go to this restaurant again? Most likely no. If i happen to pass by then maybe I will consider trying again to confirm what I had previously is a one off incident and not consistently...
Read moreAmong the dimsum restaurants on a weekend / public holiday, here at Star Dimsum we at least were able to park our car and get a place to sit in and eat. We drove pass Tai Tong and Zim Sum with disappointment because there were just too big crowds swarming the two famous dim sum restaurant. A detour to this relatively less crowded one Star Dimsum (off Jalan Macalister) never disappoint us afterall. We loved the chu-cheong-fun and lor-mai-kai. As for the standard dim sum options eg siu-mai, har-kaw, chai-taw-kuih (raddish cake), fish ball etc, considered acceptable (*best dimsum still in Ipoh). The price of each item can be slightly more expensive, but at least we didnt get into long Q. If you are looking for a dimsum treat without threathen by hungry eyes standing around you waiting for you to get off your table, this probably is a good place...
Read moreI would say the best dim sum for your bucks. The food offered was plenty of variations. It is overwhelming and tease your appetite from the beginning! And the price is pretty cheap / affordable.
The service is fast, the waiters are always ready to help, the seats are plenty and the food are hot. No aircon, open air establishment, just like traditional dim sum / kopitiam place.
We tried cha sau pao, shark fin soup and pork bakut. Washed down with pu erh tea real good. The tea has earthy taste and according to google has many benefits to your body, just don't drink too much.
Price wise: cheap, and the food quality is good. Totally worth it.
The problem is my stomach is not that big to try all their dimsum 😔.
Highly...
