We recently checked into the 2-bedroom family suite at Z Hotel Johor Bahru and were pleasantly surprised by our experience. For the price we paid, the suite exceeded our expectations with its spacious layout and comfortable design.
The suite consists of two connecting rooms—a twin room and a one-bedroom suite—offering great convenience and privacy. Each room is spacious, measuring at least 30 square meters, clean, and modern, thoughtfully decorated with subtle and calming colors. Notably, the rooms are located between levels 11 and 20, providing unobstructed panoramic views of Johor Bahru City Centre and the Johore Strait.
In-room amenities included free Wi-Fi, 50-inch flat-screen TVs with convenient access to YouTube and Netflix, safe boxes, iron sets, kettles, lazy chairs, and writing tables with lamps. A notable feature is the ceiling fans provided in all rooms, including the main hall, enhancing comfort. However, the ceiling fan speeds couldn’t be controlled, and we couldn’t locate any controls for them.
The washrooms were bright and well-maintained, with the one-bedroom suite washroom notably featuring a bathtub—an impressive amenity rarely found in 3-star hotels.
Parking is notably secure and convenient, situated in a private multi-story carpark accessible only by lift using guest keycards. Hotel security personnel offer clear guidance for guests parking their vehicles. The hotel also provides conference facilities suitable for events and meetings, and guests have access to a gym room operating from 6 am to 11 pm.
The air conditioning in the main hall wasn’t as effective, possibly due to the need for maintenance, but overall it didn’t significantly affect our comfort. Noise isolation was excellent, effectively minimizing street noise and contributing to a peaceful stay.
The hotel’s location on Jalan Wong Ah Fook is excellent, with numerous amenities and local attractions right below the hotel. Pro tip: nearby highlights include the famous Bazaar Karat night market right in front of the hotel, various authentic local eateries and trendy cafes, shopping centers like Komtar JBCC and Johor Bahru City Square, and attractions such as the Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Walk. The hotel is conveniently located just 800 meters from the Johor Bahru – Singapore Customs checkpoint.
Overall, Z Hotel offers excellent value for money, especially for families seeking spacious and comfortable accommodation in Johor Bahru. Highly recommended for those looking for affordability without compromising on comfort and...
Read moreI couldn't decide on 4 or 5 stars, until I spoke to wifey and realized we both slept very well, not because we were exhausted, but it's mainly due to the comfortable bed.
We could see JB CIQ from our window, so it's a short drive here after clearing immigration. There are 4 floors of parking accessible by two car lifts. At 4.7m long, 1.8m wide and 1.7m tall, my car fitted in the lift with some room to spare. If you're driving a bigger vehicle, it's best to ask before booking. Although there's an unsheltered carpark beside the hotel, I felt safer having the car indoors. The car lifts are slow, so if many cars are entering/exiting at the same time, it will take a while. There's a hotel staff at ground level to guide drivers into the lift, so go find him if you don't see anyone around.
We arrived very late at night, nevertheless the friendly front desk checked us in efficiently. The spacious room is clean, but I spotted signs of wear and tear. The interior is a touch corporate grey and sanitized, but that's not a complaint, merely my observation. My wife did complain about the relatively confined shower cubicle, as her elbow hit the glass frequently.
There's a ceiling fan and the window opens slightly if you prefer natural ventilation. Not us, we prefer our room well chilled. The tactile feel of the bedsheet and quilt cover was fantastic. It felt so cosy and soft that we slept till 11am the next day! Just as well because the wifi was slow to the point of being useless, so unless you want to watch TV (nothing interesting), there's little reason to stay awake.
All things considered, this hotel excelled where it mattered. We had a comfortable night's rest and the location was convenient. For those two reasons, we would return again if we make another...
Read moreI had high hopes due to the positive reviews unfortunately, the room was disappointing. For it's price point, I would give my stay a solid 2/5. The air conditioning wasn't effective, it was too cold at times or too hot. You aren't able to adjust the temperature properly. The room was dusty, and the bedsheet had stains. The bathroom was spacious, but the shower area was cramped with a poorly positioned shower head that caused water to leak out at full pressure. (Even with the shower door closed) The rain shower also had weak water pressure?? The walls are also thin, I was able to hear the honking of the cars at certain timing.
Room service was slow, we had to remind them for an extra bottle of water during check-in and eventually had to collect it ourselves. Initially, we were given only one key card, requiring us to ask for an additional one.
If yall are sensitive and can feel/see any third party, would suggest you not to stay here. I can't feel it but my bf does. He felt that the room vibes were off and "dirty". He wasn't able to sleep well for the 2 nights we stayed. So do proceed with caution. ( we stayed at the 11th floor)
On the positive side, the room had YouTube and Netflix. But please remember to sign out and clear your search history for youtube cause the stuff you guys are searching are hella whack. The staff were friendly, and the check-in and out process was smooth. Location was convenient and was close to cafes and the mall.
However, compared to my experience at Capri, the standard and service here are noticeably lower. I'd rather spend the extra $$ for Capri next time. (The price difference isn't huge) This will likely be my...
