The reviews all over the internet speaks of 30min waiting time to have Kam Long Fish Head curry -extremely famous at Johor Bahru. That wait time is accurate. However that's about it. You need not extrapolate further. I checked queues at 10am, 12am and 2pm; and in all those slots the queue length was around 20-30mins not more, not less. Food, off course, finishes most days by 3pm. For family (or group) of four, I would recommend taking the large fish tail serving as it has enough meat. The fish head servings don't have much meat. The curry pot though contains a bed of beans, ladyfingers and cabbage which ensures a thick layer of vegetables. Honestly the curry (with vegetables) stand-alone would make a great meal with rice. Hence, this is a must visit place and I recommended to visit around 11am for an early lunch with delicious and memorable fish head curry broth. Total cost for meal for four 70MYR = 18SGD = 14USD including Chinese tea and rice for four! Must visit. If you love to travel on a budget and seek value for money then my book on Amazon & Kindle should help you. Do search for ‘Scissors Paper Stones - A Family Budget travel guide’ in Amazon or kindle or Goodreads, to buy. Travel more to save more!

My favourite go-to place in JB for curry fish-head. If it's your first time there, just wait in the queue and they'll attend to you shortly. It never fails to amaze me how quickly they'll notice you no matter how long the queue. And speaking of queues, here's a quick tip! To avoid the massive lunch crowd, it's best to get there before 11am, especially on weekends. I was there just over the weekend and this time we ordered a small curry fish head instead with an extra portion of fried beancurd skin, no rice and it was just right! We had ordered the medium curry fish head plus an extra portion of veggies and fried beancurd skin, no rice on our last visit, and we still felt very full after that. In fact, the law of dimishing returns started to set in halfway through our meal , and we struggled to finish everything! So while we're experimenting with portion-size, the next combo we're gonna try is ordering the medium curry fish head, with an extra helping of fried beancurd skin, no rice and we'll see how that goes! Let me know which of these combos work for you too! Love, Lynette Tan P.S. Follow me on social for more @lovelynettetan

Queued for 20mins at this terribly famous curry fish head place in JB. The food to me was rather average. Curry was kinda diluted n not as intense as what curry fish head should be. But it tasted all right. Fish was not bad but the inner parts of the fish head was somehow slightly undercooked. The vegetables in the curry were generous though... Parking here was NOT EASY! We went round n round for 30mins. Price was reasonable. Service is pretty ok and the ambience befits what a busy curry fish head restaurant should be. However, I was totally annoyed by the drinks dept. Apparently, drinks are sold separately from the actual curry owner. And the drinks were expensive but tasted very normal. Be warned, don't order the fruit juices or please find out the price first. Our bill for a big pot of curry fish head for 5 people (plus 3 rice) was a reasonable RM70. But 3 juices came to RM53! But in all respects, the meal was still a satisfying one, albeit being sightly ruined by the price of drinks.

Dined in at this place around 11am-ish, not many people so we (4 pax) were able to walk in after ordering to quite a lot empty tables. Waited around 10mins and thought the server with food was coming to our table but he instead served a family of 4 that just came in and sat down. Didn’t think much about it until we realised more people who came in after us were being served before we got our food. In the end, we found out there was a mix up (our table had 4 of us too) and our food finally arrived after a 30mins wait. Not to sound entitled because this isn’t some Michelin restaurant but was disappointed with how the entire situation was handled. Didn’t even get a word of apology. Food wise - fish was fresh and meat succulent, curry didn’t taste as good as we remembered (or was it because of the disappointment?) as it was very watery. Maybe a word of advice to the people who run this place - perhaps the person taking the order should also be the one serving to reduce mix-ups.

Curry fish head is fresh and tasty with generous portion of Vege.Waiting time abit long so don’t come hungry. There’s a separate stall within the shop 财记 selling drinks (juices/ milkshake/ rojak). We were approached for drink at the table and ordered avocado milkshake. We assumed it was rm8 each which is small size since each of us order a drink. Also, the waiter did not specify what size when order. When billing, we were charged rm15 for each cup stating it was M size served. And S size is a baby cup size. We were pretty upset and felt like a trap as the waiter should be more upfront and honest to confirm the size and state it clear during the order not after. For the price of rm15 each cup for juice. Mind you it’s even more expensive than boost juice! It’s totally inflated and not worth it as there’s not much actual avocado in it. Lesson learnt. Just order the drink from Kam Loong direct which is only rm5 per cup.

3 stars for dine in, 5 stars if you take out. I frequent this restaurant almost on a weekly basis. If you do takeaway, there is a small charge for takeaway containers but it is my preferred way to enjoy the curry. You can also ask for the fish to be not cooked for takeaway, bring some ice to make sure it’s chilled for the trip home (SG for me). I do this and I get freshly cooked fish when I prepare it for dinner at home. Dining in is a nightmare... as much as I am deceiving myself I don’t want to be reminded of the poor hygiene when I’m indulging in this ☺️ there are 2 levels to this restaurant and even though level 2 is supposedly aircon, it is so warm!!! Don’t even think about parking around the area because it’s super jam there and fines are given if you park along the road. Also, the queue is always so long and you have to stand under the hot sun so my suggestion to enjoying this curry is to takeaway:))
