Palates & Bagles by T.A.M (same folks behind Principle Cafe - love their croissants) has a rustic and woody charming interior with dimmed lighting and a 2nd floor dining area. Bagels are the star here with a variety of freshly baked bagel flavours. We had the option to choose our bagel flavour of choice for each bagelwich. The bagels deserve a shout-out as I would eat them on their own. They were light, airy, soft, and slightly chewy with a crispy crust. The hearty Dino combines a crispy fried chicken with spicy butter milk and topped with egg omelette, cheese, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The chicken was moist with a crunchy skin. Overall, it was a flavour-packed bagelwich with a mild fiery heat. A vegetarian option, the Mario has truffle cream cheese with mixed mushrooms, fresh salad and sliced cheddar. The truffle taste of the cream cheese was mild, and the creaminess was a good match with the sauteed mushrooms. The one I enjoyed most was the Clooney - classic smoked salmon and creamy cream cheese on a sesame seed bagel. The crisp toasted bagel, the creamy tang of cream cheese and lemon, and the smoky salmon came together to create a light savoury and creamy goodness. The Almond Croissant was pretty good but not the best I've had. It was flaky and buttery with a generous filling of sweet almond paste. Sadly the Peanut Butter Blueberry Chocolate Soft Cookie fell short. It tasted like a blend protein cookie. The Iced Honey Oat Latte was surprisingly not made with oatmilk. It was slightly sweet and came with an oat cracker. The White Cold Brew was thin but light and balanced with a slight bitter aftertaste. The service staff was friendly and attentive from the start of our ordering process. Occasionally checking in and refilling our glasses. Definitely be back.

A very nice cafe which is located not far from the CIQ, probably a 10 minutes walk. Arrived before 9am and it was quite full already. We had to wait for a short while for a table upstairs but we were able to take our orders first. The savoury bagels were supposed to be better than the sweet ones so we ordered the Louis and the Ah Seng. Also ordered a lemon curd cruffin and 2 drinks. Was quite shocked the total bill came up to 142RM! It was quite expensive for Malaysian standards and probably considered typical for breakfast at cafe, so wonder if they were setting prices so high for Singaporeans than the locals. Got a table immediately after ordering and was showed to the table. I have to say the service was good here and the staff were attentive. They kept walking around to make sure the water was refilled, and they way they talk to diners were also very polite. Tried the bagels and they were quite good to be honest, but I liked Ah Seng more than Louis. The drinks were decent and the lemon curd cruffin was good. The meringue at the top was probably the only sour element, but we enjoyed the flakiness of the cruffin and the thick and nice custard filling. The almond croissant was average, I thought it would taste better if it was warm at least. The filling tasted a bit like kaya though, not almond. Finished our meal and headed downstairs and saw that they got more pastries available! Too bad we came too early if not would be able to try more stuff here. Overall good food and good service and definitely recommended to visit! Be early or you have to wait!

๐ณ ๐๐ก ๐๐ข๐๐ง - RM25.90โฃ We picked the sesame bagel for this breakfast bagel, as we wanted the ingredients to shine! We did feel that the bagel was quite messy to eat because of the smashed avocado, sriracha mayo, eggs and cheddar. Only crunch was from the hashbrown but did become soggy quite quickly. Bagel itself was crusty but not the most chewy, felt more bread-like to usโฃ โฃ ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ - RM34.90โฃ Smokey beef brisket, hashbrown, cajun mayo, egg, caramelised onions and cheese โ definitely a strong-flavoured one. Beef was tender and not too beefy, but we had the same bones to pick even with the parmesan cheese bagel. Maybe we just prefer a chewier bagel. The croissant exterior was buttery and flakey, but the pistachio cream didnโt have the pistachio flavour that we wanted. It felt like they used more cream than pistachio, hence the lack of flavour. โฃ โฃ ๐ผ ๐๐ฌ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ก๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ - RM16.90โฃ Got this because we were intrigued by this unusual latte flavour! Honestly, it was decent for someone who occasionally drinks sweetened coffees. The floral notes of the osmanthus did go decently with the coffee, but was it the best combination? Maybe not. The osmanthus petals did get a bit annoying as we consumed the drinkโฃ โฃ โ๏ธ ๐ ๐ฅ๐๐ญ ๐ช๐ก๐ข๐ญ๐ - RM12.90โฃ A relatively average cup of flat white, nothing to nitpick about, but nothing noteworthyโฃ โฃ While we felt that the bagels here werenโt the best weโve had, we do still think that this is a decent spot to visit if you have a bagel craving in JB! โฃ

Came here for brunch with my friends and crowd levels were high when we came around 10:15am. ๐ง Water is complimentary. ------ Here are what we ordered: ๐ฅฏ Ah Seng (30 RM) This is a savoury crustacean bagel with traditional dried shrimp paste on it. The shrimp cake was a patty, battered and fried, which gave it a really good crunch. The batter was a bit too thick for my liking. The sauce that was slathered over is a mayonnaise and dried fried shrimp, which carried lots of umami shrimp flavours. A good Western Asian fusion! I rate: 4/5 ๐ ๐ฅฏ T.A.M (26 RM) A rather safe option of a savoury sweet breakfast bagel. Smooth peanut butter was slathered on hashbrown and a thin omelette. Parmesean bagel was thick and slightly chewy. I rate: 3.5/5 ๐ ๐ Earl Grey Tea Cake with Lemon Curd (17 RM) Very soft earl grey chiffon cake that is moist and spongey on the inside. The lemon curd on the top adds a refreshing zing, along with the pomegranate seeds & nuts. I rate: 3/5 ๐ โ๏ธ Coffee wise, we go a variety of Cold Brew White Latte, Iced Latte, and Osmanthus Latte. All of which are pretty standard and have nothing much to elaborate on. Osmanthus latte was very pretty but not prominent. I rate: 3/5 ๐ ๐ Grapefruit Peach Sparkling Oolong (16 RM) This was really refreshing with the bubbles and citrusy flavours. Can't really taste the Oolong here, and the syrup was too sweet, but nonetheless, it was a refreshing choice on a hot day. I rate: 3.5/5 ๐

Visited Palates & Bagels upon a recommendation, and it was an absolute treat! This charming cafe captures the essence of a cozy morning perfectly. The highlights were undoubtedly their signature bagels, which were freshly baked and wonderfully light, just the way I like it. Each bite was a delightful blend of crispiness and soft, flavorful dough. They had a good variety of bagel options - we went for the Ah Seng (Hae be hiam mayo with prawn patty and caramelised onions) on a parmesan cheese bagel, and the Dvesh (curry mayo with fried chicken and caramelised onions) on a sesame bagel. Both were pretty solid recommendations from the staff, although I preferred the Ah Seng more. The Korean style fried chicken was crispy and juicy, but we'd probably ask for more sauce next time. Osmanthus pear sparkling oolong was pretty interesting, while the yuzu and lemon ginger was very refreshing. They do sell a variety of bakes, which we had to go, including soft cookies, croissants, and crombolini - the crombolini, earl grey tea cake, and almond croissants were the stand-outs here :) The staff were also super friendly and attentive, and more than happy to share their favourites, adding to the overall positive experience. Overall, Palates & Bagels is a must-visit for anyone in Johor Bahru looking for a delicious and satisfying halal bagel experience in a cozy cafe setting.

The atmosphere here is really chill/vibey, with good service from the staff as well! They were really attentive to serving us, and gave us recommendations on what to get! Their โAh Sengโ bagel (we had w Parmesan Bagel) was really really good, with a flakey bagel and strong HaeBi sauce/prawn patty. Extremely flavourful and delightful. The โLouisโ bagel has a strong beefy taste (we had w Sesame Bagel), but is definitely overshadowed by the Ah Seng in comparison. The Hazelnut Praline Cruffin was flakey and generous with their cream, though some might find it a bit โjelatโ โ I really like it though. The Carrot Cake was pretty spongey on the other hand, and pairs really nicely with the cheese cream and crunchy Walnut praline on top. The Osmanthus Latte that I tried was decent enough, mainly an ice white with sweet Osmanthus bits. The Hot Chocolate was subpar though, being a typical hot chocolate that you can seemingly make yourself at home. Overall, the food really takes the cake, and i will definitely be back for the Ah Seng.
