There are a collection of old avenues that crisscross downtown Johor Bahru all the way down to the seafront, this must be the oldest part of town with Tan Hiok Nee old shophouses now mostly renovated to their original style to create a wonderful atmosphere for locals and visitors. Tan Hiok Nee is essentially now a walking street, the Town Council have widened the pavements on both sides squeezing the road into a single vehicle one way street.
