Read moreDisappointing Experience with Windsmill Upon Suites
I recently stayed at Windsmill Upon Suites in Genting Highlands, and my experience was marred by the management's poor handling of an accidental incident.
On the day of the incident, my family and I just checked in and were going up to our room with luggage and shopping bags. Unbeknownst to us, a carton of milk (it was new and packed) was leaking from one of the bags. We only realized this when we reached our room and saw the spillage in the corridor outside our room. We immediately cleaned up the spillage in the corridor to prevent any inconvenience to other guests.
However, we later discovered that some milk had also spilled in the lift during our journey up. Unfortunately, we were not aware of this until after we had exited the lift. Had we known, we would have cleaned up the spillage in the lift as well.
Despite our efforts to clean up the spillage in the corridor and our unawareness of the spillage in the lift, the building management imposed a fine of RM 300 (RM 200 fine and RM 100 cleaning fee) without discussing the matter with us or considering the circumstances.
To make matters worse, the hotel failed to provide us with a comprehensive rulebook or guide to their rules and regulations, including any associated fines. This lack of transparency and communication led to confusion and frustration.
Furthermore, the management communicated the fine to me just 7 minutes before their offices closed for a 2-day weekend. As I was checking out on Sunday and their office didn't reopen until Monday, I was left with no opportunity to discuss this matter with anyone. This lack of availability and inflexibility only added to my frustration.
As a foreigner, I felt unfairly treated, and the management's actions tainted my experience in Malaysia. I would advise future guests to exercise caution when staying at this hotel and to ensure they receive a clear understanding of the hotel's rules and regulations. And on the end they would force you to pay the fine by threatening to call the police.
The hotel's facilities and location were satisfactory, but the poor management and lack of transparency overshadowed our entire experience.
I hope the hotel management takes steps to address these issues and provide a better experience for future guests.
Tips for Future Guests:
Request a comprehensive rulebook or guide to the hotel's rules and regulations. Ensure you understand the hotel's policies and associated fines. Be cautious of unfair fines and poor...
Read moreIt's pretty good value for the money, especially if you get the rooms/apartments that are under RM 160. I chose the duplex (loft-style), mainly because the ad stated "mountain view", and this was one of my main criteria. I paid RM 264 for it.
Upon checking in, we realized that the room reeked of cigarette smoke. It smelled like 20 people all smoked cigarettes at the same time for 10 hours straight with all windows and doors closed. The room was supposed to be a non-smoking room, so we made a complaint to the front desk, where we were given a key to another room, with the suggestion that we check it out and see if it was to our liking.
It was an apartment with 3 bedrooms that could sleep six, never mind that we were only a couple. It wasn't the configuration that I chose, and it cost RM 100 less per night than the duplex I booked, so we rejected it too. We were finally given a room that was identical to the first one, but without the odor of cigarette smoke permeating every surface of the unit. By which point 2 hours had passed. Why couldn't they have given us this room when we came down the first time?
The cleanliness of the place was good. The bed was comfortable, and the bedding was clean. The sofa in the living room was stained, but other than that, it was comfortable to sit on. The bathrooms could have had more attention to detail when cleaned - there were some random hairs and dead insects here and there.
The view was not exactly what I expected. Yes, we were in the mountains, but also we were in town, so the views were obstructed by other tall buildings, and to the left and right were new developments under construction. There was constant construction noise that started before 6 am, and didn't stop till after dark.
Also, the sky deck was closed indefinitely, and the area by the pool is closed for "sanitizing and cleaning" every day from 11am - 1pm, whereby the entire area is off-limits to guests. We were gruffly told by the security guards to go away. Basically everything that you see in the pretty pictures, all the selling points were unavailable to us. We were told by a resident of the building that before the pandemic, everything was open all the time, but now they have closed it off even though no sanitizing or cleaning actually takes place.
All told, we won't be back, even though the prices are attractive. It's just too noisy, and the advertised facilities were...
