I had a great time in Tijuana. I'm glad I stayed at Hotel Lafayette.
Rooms: My room had this fear and loathing in las vegas decor. I'm not sure if its intentional or coincidence but the bathroom looked like it was literally out of the scene in that movie where they are doing mescaline. The bathtub was really nice! I loved bathing in it multiple times a day in between my hang out sessions at Hong Kong Club (iykyk)
There was also a really cool bar on the premises and I hung out there a few nights and actually made friends with some locals which is maybe a little out of character for me cause sometimes i can be more introverted but they made me feel really welcome and they were all so easy to talk to. Everyone was so lovely and nice. Mexican people are wonderful and friendly.
They also have a big open rooftop which is pretty empty and kind of unfinished but has some chairs and tables and I was able to sit up there, smoke, and read some books. I loved it.
Service: I really enjoyed meeting the hotel staff. Especially Daniel ( and his friend Diego who doesnt actually work at the hotel but hangs there a lot and is super cool) And Lorenzo, who I had the most time to talk with. All of them Wonderful people! Mexicans are very personable people. I always get along with Mexican people. I look forward to going back there to see all those friendly faces. Its great to know that I have a place in tijuana to go to that is filled with people I can trust given that tijuana is so sketchy tbh, i feel very safe at hotel lafayette
Location: for me hotel lafayette is the perfect location for tijuana because its within short walking distance from hong kong club and its not sleazy like the hotels closer to hong kong club.
Nearby is a restaurant called Caesars which is where the caesar salad was invented! i had no idea the caesar salad was invented in tijuana! They still make it the same way, tableside. It was so good I actually had it for both lunch and dinner on the same day. you absolutely must try this Caesar salad at Caesars.
In the night time there is a lot of loud music until around 12 or 1am. there is generally an issue with cops robbing people. It happened to me on my last inight. I was walking home 11pm from hong kong club and the cops drove by and called me over to them and they got out of their cars and searched me for absolkutely no reason at all. Thank god I did not have weed on me like i usually do, but i knew about this cop situation before I came to TJ so I left the weed at home, and thank god I had not had even one sip of alcohol that night. When they searched me I felt the cop take my money out of my left pocket. It was so smooth. After they got my money, and they saw that I had no drugs and was not drunk so they let me go.
Word to the wise...dont get drunk or have drugs on you when walking in tijuana. you should expect to be pulled over by cops at some point if you walk around the zona norte area at night but really they could pull you over at any time. Mentally prepare yourself for this so its not upsetting when it happens and you know how to react. They seem to be using the police thing as a ruse to rob people. I didnt really care they got 40$ but I already knew they did this so honestly I didnt even feel violated. If you go to mexico you got to know this is what happens. It comes with the territory but my experience it was fine even though I was a bit shaken by it. the encounter was only a few mins. they didnt handcuff me or put me in the car. clearly its a routine for them. Its a good idea to always carry 20-40$ in your pocket because if you have no money for them to take im told they may take you in to the station until you can find some money or maybe force you to an atm. I think most likely they prefer to just search you and take whatever you have without any discussion whatever so its almost like it didnt really happen at all. It was so quiet. Just be docile and polite. respectul nice you will be fine. it wont deter me from coming...

The manager I knew was a very kind and helpful person yet the staff cleaning and running things have introduced me to more than one occasion of having to change rooms due to either blood or hair all throughout the bending. The dirt sheets have been a couple of times. Yet I never screamed about it. I just asked for another room and they would help. Last visit my girl has died her hair res and the towels certainly got some tine in it so I immediately ran the. To the desk to avoid any stains that wouldn't wash out. Then I heard nothing about it. Today I was expecting my room two months later and upon arrival I was told by the manager that I'm not allowed to rent for 3 months?! I asked what and why? I said why wasn't I aware when I made the reservation? As well I pointed out that I'd be happy to pay for the towel. He then said his made told the manager that I moved furniture. Not broke or damaged.. moved.
I emphasized how many issues I've overlooked on their behalf because I support small businesses. And I was never reimbursed for any of it.
He said I have one more month. I said tell them where to go and I left.
I'm posting this because it was a major f u to a loyal customer. I can afford to pay for towels. I guess they can afford to get 1 star.
Happy New Year....
