This is by far the best hostel I've stayed in, based on price, location, staff friendliness, cleanliness, comfort and facilities. In fact.. I'm struggling to find a fault.
We checked in with ease, the staff are very friendly and speak English. We recieved on a complimentary watermelon juice during check in, which was just what I needed after trekking through the heat from the bus station! Remenber to bring cash, as there is no card machine. We were showed around the facilities and everything was emaculate. There is a kitchen and dinning area to cook including a microwave and fridge. The shared bathroom is always empty with more than enough for everyone. It's location is literally across from the cathedral and Central Grande Plaza where all the events take place. It's too perfect! There is also a rooftop that overlooks the cathedral for smokers. The bedrooms have lockers that are assigned each bed, and the AC is on at the right temperature to not wake up freezing. The breakfast consists of coffee, ice tea, fresh watermelon and papaya, scrambled egg, yoghurt, cereals and mini pizza baguettes. The next day was doughnut and hotdogs. I literally couldn't believe it!! Every other hostel just gave us dry bread.
I honestly couldn't rate this place more highly, the staff deserve every peso they get and more. Highly recomend...
Read moreBest value/money ever: ||- excellent location, ||- very friendly staff, ||- "all you can eat" breakfast incl. in dorm price, with different warm dishes every day,||- great views of the beautiful cathedral through "hole in the ceiling" :) and windows,||- esthetic place to sit and enjoy food/drinks by the reception, nice view and vibe,||- discounts for daily tours copmared to prices on the street,||- you can drink your own drinks/beer on premises, if reasonably quiet and polite (not allowed in many Yucatan hostels).||||EspeciallyVictor was super friendly, and very easy to deal with for both the accommodation and daily tours (I walked into the hostel without the reservation). Als also thanks a lot for a beer, Victor! :) ||||Merida was the only beautiful city I saw on my trip via Yucatan, and Uxmal was the best experience with the ruins/pyramids (least croweded, large but unlike Coba a compact site, still some shade unlike Ch.Itza., and option to climb one of the large pyramids :) Also easy to get great mexican craft beers, both in stores near the hostel (just observe that they stop selling at like 6pm) and in the excellent bars in a...
Read moreIn our opinion this is the only hostel to stay in on a visit to Mérida. It's smack in the center (Centro Histórico), as the name suggests, directly next to the Cathedral and surrounded by restaurants and life. The took a private double room over looking the cathedral and loved it. Yes, they could fix things up a bit (the roof, for example, has a lot of potential but is currently just a place to smoke) and the building itself is in need of some freshening up. ||Pros: incredible location, great music, fantastic, well-informed staff (especially Alfonso), A/C in the room, spacious clean bathrooms;|Cons: A/C in the bathrooms (was very cold & a waste of resources which the hostel could redirect elsewhere), the breakfast was a buffet but didn't look that appetising (although the fruit, coffee and agua fresca were good); rooftop needs work, windows in the room don't open & there's a smell of humidity in the room, which however could be fixed with the A/C.||Look no further - this is the place to...
