I’m writing this review in case anyone is like me and reads reviews and is surprised because it’s mostly positive reviews. . If you come here, then you must sit on the terrace. It is for sure gorgeous and a great view. I do wish they played some softer or live music instead of what they chose, but it was still a nice vibe. That said… I have to say I was utterly underwhelmed by the food and the saving grace was the glasses of wine I had. . I had a glass of red from Mexico and it was lovely. The server recommended it, though he did say yes to everything being good. . I started with a guacamole with smoked meat, which was good, but not unreal. It was a decent size, but expensive by even North American standards. I did add some salt and lime which enhanced the flavors. . As a main I had the shrimp alfredo, which all the reviews raved about. It was a small portion (something others noted), the shrimp was overcooked and the sauce was quite bland. When the server checked in I had asked for fresh pepper, which they didn’t have, so he offered to have the chef remake it. I am quite certain they literally just tossed some extra cheese in my dish and mixed it up and replated it. When it returned it was no better and when I told the server he simply burst out laughing. I didn’t finish the pasta and did enjoy my glass of sav blanc and salvage the moment with the view, but left disappointed. . The server didn’t comment further and proceeded to take my dish away even though I hadn’t finished. I then asked for the bill and carried on. No follow up and no consideration. My meal was just under 1000pesos with the two dishes and 2 glasses of wine. . I did see that guests seem to be getting some sort of card and told to fill out a survey. I’m guessing they only get that if they’re sure they enjoyed the meal. . It’d recommend coming for wine and if you aren’t particular about tour food, then this may be satisfactory. I won’t bash it, because it wasn’t awful, but it definitely wasn’t worth the price point or the excellent reviews. I did manage to take some good...

20.967709°, -89.623656° You should look for the small entrance in the Plaza de la Independencia a.k.a. “Plaza Grande”, to the left of the Palacio de Gobierno del Estado de Yucatán. Behind the entrance, there are stairs to the dining room on the first floor (2F) and another staircase to the roof terrace on the second floor (3F). Picheta is a highly rated TripAdvisor restaurant in the centre of Mérida. The roof terrace offers panorama views of the historic Plaza Grande, especially at night when the lights come on. A very romantic and luxurious place to dine.
In December 2024, we chose to have cocktails at the bar before dinning. We ordered Margaritas (Mex$180) as our first cocktail, followed by La Doña (Mex$220) with chilli powder on the rim of the glass. Very tasty cocktails.
At our table, we started with traditional soup de lima with turkey and toasted omelette (Mex$160) and tuna toast with lime, avocado, cucumber, coriander, sesame oil and tortilla ashes (8 pieces) (Mex$230). Both starters tasted fine with white house wine (Mex$850 a bottle). As main courses, we ordered buttery-and-rosemary aged beef steak, sauté of truffled mushrooms and tree spinach served with mashed potatoes (Mex$540). The steak was perfectly prepared with lovely flavours and a fine texture. We finished this excellent diner with sweet milk caramel cake, vanilla ice cream from Papantla and red berries (Mex$240) and hazelnut dacquoise with caramelised banana, pastry cream and salted caramel glaze (Mex$210). Great way to finish an excellent dinner. Service was highly professional. English menu is available.
Picheta sees itself at the heart of Yucatecan contemporary gastronomy with in-house and guest chefs creating unique dishes with local ingredients. Not cheap, but worth the culinary experience of local flavours. Highly...
Read moreThe fact that the people who were leaving told us not to eat there should have been a red flag. I'll list everything that happened.
1.- We made a reservation with enough time (days), a deposit had to be done previously since it was a 14-person table, which they confirmed. When we arrived, they gave us a 12 people table and just wanted to add 2 chairs, of course, we didn't allow it and asked for another table. Red flag #2
2.- We waited a long time for the food, when I say long time I mean 12 people ate entrees and main course, the 2 missing plates never arrived, we complained and they arrived when everyone else was having dessert. Red flag #3
3.- The food was tasteless, we literally had to ask for salt and pepper to get some flavor, if you already have a reservation and this is your last option cause everything else is booked, DONT ask for the shrimp unless you want steamed white rice and 5 shrimp. If you irder meat and they ask how you want your meat, tell them however they want cause they literally won't care. Red flag #4
4.- Now comes the great part. They charged us extra aaaand didn't want to give it back LOL and when we asked for a manager, they said there wasn't one. It was a $14,000mxn ($750usd) bill AND charged us extra, jow does that even happen. Red flag #5
Really there are great great restaurants downtown, just avoid all the hazzle, you're flipping a coin coming to this place. We had come a few years ago, now it's just not worth it. Honestly we were so kind about it and pointed it out until the end as we were leaving, we were tired, with friends and we just wanted to enjoy each other, but honestly anyone else would have made a scene with ALL the things that went wrong, I would need to write an essay (which I almost did) to list everything that...
