My husband and I recently stayed at the Mansion Merida for our pandemic mini-honeymoon. Once we had landed on Merida as a honeymoon location, we quickly found the Mansión Mérida and decided to stay there--the pictures looked beautiful and the prices seemed incredibly reasonable for the quality. The hotel was built by the owner Raul's great-grandfather as a family home, and, after falling into disrepair for 60 years or so, Raul painstakingly restored the mansion to its former glory in the form of a boutique hotel with only 14 (STUNNING) rooms. There is a restaurant, bar, plaza, pool, and plenty of beautiful common spaces. It's located right in the center of Merida's historic district, with everything you could need within walking distance. It's also only 90 minutes from Chichén Itzá, which was a site we both wanted to see while we were there.
The reality of our stay wildly exceeded any expectations we had going in from the photos and website. From the moment we arrived--literally we were met at our car at 11 at night by both the hotel manager and the OWNER Raul--until the moment we left, we were taken care of at a level that I've never seen at any hotel anywhere in the world. The staff were beyond solicitous and friendly (literally everyone knew our names). Anything we raised as a possibility, from breakfast in our room to dinner by the pool, was catered to enthusiastically.
And that was just the regular parts. Thanks to a gift from friends, we were given a special "romantic dinner" to celebrate our marriage our last night at the hotel. These folks went ALL OUT. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. We were in the hotel's Monet dining room (decorated like the Waterlilies painting) BY OURSELVES for a TEN COURSE candlelit meal. As a special gift to us, to add to the gift of the dinner from friends, THE OWNER RAUL HAD A LOCAL MUSICIAN COME SERENADE US for the second half of the meal. It was the most extravagant experience of my life to date, and it was perfect.
Suffice it to say, YOU SHOULD GO TO THIS PLACE. This place is an absolute gem and, like lots of small businesses, they are struggling right now. If you are inclined to travel at all right now, Merida is a great place to have a socially-distanced vacation and the Mansion Merida gives you SO MUCH bang...
Read moreProbably the nicest boutique hotel I have ever stayed at. Rooms are superb and the staff is even better. Breakfast is as long or as short as you like, with a quality selection for starting the day. Location is just a block from the old cathedral and central square. The walkability of the old town is phenomenal. About 3 blocks away is the central town market. This is a must see. I have seen so many open air markets around the world but this one is the cleanest and well organized that I have seen. Not a single fly to be seen on meats, fish or produce. Plus, just about anything you can think of is for sale here. Restaurants abound within walking distance from this hotel. The rooms are just as seen in the pics. Antiques, and exquisite furniture and chandeliers abound. The owner has done a exquisite job in the restoration of his family's home. |Merida is only about a 40 minute drive from the beaches. This side of the Yucatan does not get the seaweed like Cancun and Play del Carmen. The hotel has a reciprocity agreement with a fantastic Beach Club about a 50 minute drive. Roads in and round Merida are very good and well marked. Police are visible in and around Merida. All traffic lights work and crosswalks are sometimes manned by Metro Police to facilitate traffic movement. The city bus system is extensive and well used. Busses are newer and some electric. The hotel provides free valet parking and my car appeared about 10 minutes after asking to have it brought around. The staff were just so nice. The owner makes himself available and is well suited to the hospitality industry. Extremely welcoming and goes out of his way to make sure your stay is unforgettable. Would I go back to Merida, absolutely. It is centrally located for the Mayan ruins, cenotes, beach and a look back into local and world history. This hotel is perfectly located, beautiful and staffed with people that truly are glad to have you...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel from August 7–11, 2025, and it was easily one of the best travel experiences we’ve ever had. The property is a 19th-century French-style mansion turned boutique hotel, full of ornate details that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted, given refreshing chaya drinks, and upgraded from a Jr. Suite to a Suite without even asking. The room was spotless, elegant, and beautifully decorated.|Breakfast was a highlight, served in a gorgeous open-air atrium with a fountain, palms, and flowers. The food was fresh and beautifully presented, with options like handmade tortillas, fresh juices, and a wide menu. Service was impeccable, and one morning we even enjoyed live folkloric dancers in the courtyard. The owner, Raul Casares — great-grandson of the original owner — personally greeted us and encouraged us to contact him for anything we needed.|When we asked about visiting Cenotes Santa Barbara, Raul arranged for his trusted friend Nazario to drive us, which was much more reliable than taking buses or colectivos. Nazario was kind, helpful, and waited for us during our visit. After I hurt my back at the cenotes, Raul arranged for a doctor, who was at my room within 40 minutes. Thanks to the treatment, I was able to continue enjoying the rest of our trip. Raul even checked on me personally throughout our stay, including during a quiet day by the pool, where we relaxed with drinks and snacks.|This hotel is everything: historic charm, immaculate rooms, fantastic dining, attentive staff, and an owner who treats his guests like family. We will...
