El Trapiche in Centro: my husband’s favorite meal in Merida was here! So nice we ate there twice! We stopped in El Trapiche for lunch one Saturday in February and sat at a table by the window to watch the world go by. We were hungry after exploring the main square area, and this place really hit the spot! The server was so nice and even took the time to explain the daily specials to us. We must have been hungry because I forgot to take photos of the meal, but I had the chicken special that came with all the “fixins” including warm tortillas and delicious Jamaica (hibiscus) tea, all for 105 MEX. My husband had a huge, delicious portion of vegetarian enchiladas that was full of veggies and good stuff. They know how to take good care of vegetarians here! Later in the week, we stopped in for a quick pasta dinner, and of course Jamaica tea, and that was good too. The menu is extensive, the service is friendly, the prices are very reasonable, and the place seems clean. They accept credit cards too. Check it out!

After a long day of exploring the Centro Histórico, I stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to give it a try. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and relaxed. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting, the perfect respite after a day of walking. As for the food, I ordered the traditional cochinita pibil tacos and they were absolutely an experience. The meat was cooked to perfection, tender. I personally would have loved more seasoning on the meat; however, what elevated tacos apart were the salsas. The pico de gallo was fresh and spicy, while the red and green salsas added a nice depth of flavor. I couldn't get enough of them! I also had the sopa de Lima and it was good. Overall, my experience at this restaurant was positive and satisfying. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was just what I needed to wind down after a busy day. If you're in the area, I highly recommend checking it out!

Not the best but definitely not bad. We went twice in a week because we felt it tasted good and was well priced given the location and area. The sopa the lima is good but we definitely had better. Same with panuchos and salbutes. Cochinita pibil was pretty tasty but could be smokier. Flan was only ok. Too bad because it looked very good. Suggestion: save your stomach and go get yourself marquesitas or ice cream outside instead. Special mention to the nacho and guacomole. Great serving size and creamy guacamole. We really enjoyed it. Special shout out to the freshly pressed fruit drinks. They were pretty good too. Beers are actually fairly priced. The service was great. Took orders rapidly and came back often to check on us. Note about atmosphere: if sitting close to toilets bothers you then avoid the tables closest to toilets.

I will first say that I wanted to give this place 5 stars because of their food options. We are vegetarian and it has been more than difficult to find restaurants that accommodate us here in Merida. (We have better luck in Chelem believe it or not). We got there and were seated promptly, given menus, and took awhile to decide. In the meantime, we were not offered beverages. The place was semi-busy and only one waitress seemed to be working so I didnt mind the wait. We ordered and they were happy to accommodate us. We ordered quite a bit of extra food because our Airbnb is in the middle of nowhere and wanted leftovers to snack on for the next day. We got tacos vegetarianos, enchiladas vegetarianos, and pizza vegetarianos. The enchilada and tacos were fantastic. The pizza...I would pass. It was cheap and taste was okay but Ive read better reviews for pizza in Merida elsewhere. The major problem we had here was our service. When we finally got drinks, we ordered Agua de la garrafon so that we dont keep wasting plastic bottles on our trip. We were served 6oz glasses and waited over an hour before these were refilled-they should have been refilled within 15 minutes of sitting there. The meal took a long time to arrive. We asked for refills and the waitress never came back to do it until after we payed. Ate our whole meal without beverages. We asked for the check and almost missed our Uber because of how slow the service was...and the uber was a 27 minute wait and we ordered it as soon as we were finished eating. Now I cant say for certain...but we have had no issues in our last 2 weeks in mexico as far as feeling ill or off after eating of drinking. However as soon as we got home both of our stomachs were aching terribly and had a small case of the "montezuma's revenge" :(. I hate to think this, but I feel that we were given regular water instead of purified water. That is the only thing we shared in common the entire day and it was only 20 minutes after leaving the restaurant. Im so glad that we were not brought more water because our illness would probably have been much worse. We noticed the waitress was serving the locals much faster than we were served and the teens in the kitchen were not really doing their job either. Im sure for a local this is a great place to eat. As a tourist (who was friendly and patient during our visit), I would not recommend to...

The food is ok. not really overwhelmed. I know it's a busy restaurant. but the service is terrible, I think it's only one waiter serving really badly (The waiter served me) . I've been to several restaurants in Mexico, and this is the worse dining experience I've ever had. The water threw the salt container on the table and also the juice I ordered. I know the waiter in Mexico basically earns tips from this job, but the service from this waiter is really bad and even asked directly for tips. I really don't feel comfortable about this. ( Normally, for me , the tips should be decided by the customers whether they enjoy the meal and the service. But this waiter just asked directly from the customer and I think it's really impolite ! while I was paying by card, he even went to other table to talk to other people for not really emergent thing and left the card machine on table ..... So I really don't know this kind of service deserves tips? The owner should really take this...
