Mancera bar — Restaurant in Mexico City

My first though was that this would be a typical tourist spot in a historic city center, but we were VERY pleasantly surprised. We stopped in one night because it was raining hard and very close to our hotel. The menu is small and my girlfriend has some very limiting dietary restrictions so while having a mezcalita, we considered finding another place, but the room is beautiful, the drinks were very well done and we saw a woman running the kitchen - all of which we loved. So after some back and forth with the waiter he offered a couple of dishes that met all our needs.

Long story short, the food was fresh, delicious and creative for both me and my girlfriend. I stopped in the next day to grab a couple of orders of the delicious roasted tomato soup and after some confusion about them not having tomato soup, the chef, Avril came out and offered to make it for me. Turns out she just whipped it up for my girlfriend the night before and remembered us and offered to make some more. Un lugar con historia y alma.

El Bar Mancera es una joya escondida en el corazón del Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de México. Está ubicado dentro de lo que solía ser una antigua casona-hotel, y basta con cruzar la puerta para sentir que entraste a otra época. La arquitectura es simplemente espectacular: techos altos, vitrales coloridos, pinturas antiguas, un piano clásico y una barra que parece sacada de una película de época. Todo en el lugar respira historia y autenticidad.

He tenido la oportunidad de ir en dos ocasiones, y cada una fue una experiencia muy distinta, pero igualmente memorable.

La primera vez fue un sábado por la noche: había karaoke, ambiente animado, gente cantando, riendo, pasándola bien. Se sentía esa vibra de cantina tradicional, con un toque nostálgico pero muy viva. Ideal para ir con amigos y echar trago con música y buen ambiente.

La segunda visita fue un jueves a eso de las 8:30 pm. El lugar estaba prácticamente vacío, lo que le dio un aire más íntimo y relajado. Perfecto para una charla tranquila y una copa en un ambiente encantador. Lo único que me sorprendió fue que a esa hora ya habían cerrado la cocina (cierran a las 10 pm), así que sólo pudimos tomar algo. Aun así, el servicio fue amable y el lugar tan bonito que igual valió totalmente la pena.

En resumen: el Bar Mancera no es sólo un bar, es una experiencia. Ideal para quienes disfrutan de los lugares con historia, con carácter, y con ese encanto que no se puede fabricar. Sin duda, un lugar al...

The LOUD music should have served as a warning....This historical establishment is gorgeous. We went in for an aperitivo. Given the high prices, one imagines wonderful artisan cocktails. Nope. Commercial quality drinks served in cheap tiny "diner" glasses (think Chilli's 2 for 1). Presentation was as terrible as the flavor. There are other places in the city that charge the same, yet provide a beautiful drink in a nice glass with a classy atmosphere....
