Beautiful boutique hotel nestled on the Tulum beachfront. Went spent three glorious nights there and had a fantastic time. The service was amazing! Nothing we asked for went unanswered. |First day we were in a second floor room with a garden view, lovely balcony with wooden lounging chairs. However due to my SO’s bad back we requested a first floor room as there is no elevator and he had a hard time with the stairs. They graciously accommodated us the next day. The second room was identical with the exception of a plunge pool… very nice. |We only made it to the beach club the first day. The lounge beds were cozy and they provide towels there. Now the water did not look prone for swimming nor it did we see any access to water activities, however, I am certain the front desk staff could provide information on where all of those activities are located if that’s what you’re interested in doing. We wanted lazy days lounging around and this place was perfect for us. |A couple of important pieces that I want to note that I found nowhere in reviews prior to our visit.|1. The hotel is Moroccan themed thus the menu items are Mediterranean. There is NO pork on the menu, thus don’t expect bacon or sausage or anything of the like on the menu. Additionally, the menu is fairly limited. We had the breakfast included with our room and each day had the bread plate, fruit platter and usually the fitness omelette or veggie omelette (both very good with cheese). One morning, I also had the avocado toast, but be forewarned it comes with arugula. Do not expect any chilaquiles or rice and beans or any pancakes or French toast….thats a no. For lunch or dinner the lamb kabobs were good the margarita pizza was good as well as truffle fries. There is no traditional Mexican dishes either on their menu. |2. Transportation - getting around is EXPENSIVE! Anytime you enter a taxi expect a $30 US each way. And that’s just up and down the beach. We went to dinner at Casa Banana (which we highly recommend, it’s a Michelin Argentinian steak house), although it was just a mile from our hotel, $30 there and another $30 to return. |Also to get to the hotel from the airport, they will arrange transportation for you however the cost is either $130 per couple for a minivan or $160 per couple for a suburban. Again that is EACH WAY. So be certain to factor those costs into your travel budget. |Additionally, I considered renting a car before we travelled, however could not locate any rental companies on Hotwire or elsewhere. But upon arrival we met our driver in front of Avis rental car. So perhaps explore the cost of renting a car and parking at the hotel and various hotels/ restaurants along the beach. |3. There are tvs! Apparently televisions are not a common amenity on the Tulum beachfront. Here each from came equipped they also have access to Netflix, YouTube and Prime, all came in handy when we were rained in. You may also want to consider bringing a good book or a few games because that same afternoon of the thunderstorm, the power went out and we were without internet for a good portion of the day. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the time disconnected from the rest of the world. |All in all a great place with a very accommodating staff. Joss at the front desk is AMAZING!! He provided some wonderful recommendations for dinner. Casa Banana and La Zebra were both incredible. Do try them during your stay. |Sana boutique hotel was wonderful and I would...
Read moreFrom the start, we were warmly greeted by Joss with fresh, cold towels on a platter, an incredibly thoughtful gesture after a long day of driving throughout Mexico from Cancún to Tulum. Our vehicle was safely guarded & parked with wonderful security from Angel & Soul. After our luggage was brought to the room, we were surprised with a welcome mezcal drink, and a handwritten welcome note, what a way to make me feel immediately valued and seen. Breakfast is phenomenal and available until 11AM. I had the beet hummus toast with candied nuts and spinach. All organic and bursting with flavor.
Anada at the front desk was especially helpful, offering great recommendations for nearby restaurants and shopping so we could make the most of our short stay if we wanted to explore outside the resort. We were only there for a brief time, I would highly recommend staying at least 3 to 4 days to truly soak in everything this tranquil resort has to offer.
Ceaser, who handles operations, is wonderful and attentive—you’ll often see him around the property checking in to make sure guests are enjoying themselves and have everything they need. At the bar area, another Ceaser (yes, two amazing Ceasers!) crafted a delicious mocktail for me based on my preferences and walked us down to the beach to enjoy watching the waves roll in. On the top floor, there’s a stunning rooftop pool with panoramic views of the ocean, swaying palm trees, and the beachfront. Lautaro, who was the rooftop pool bartender had a bright smile and a warm personality, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
The staff alone will make you want to return. Their attentiveness, kindness, and dedication to creating a welcoming atmosphere leave a lasting impression. The decor itself is stunning—Moroccan-inspired, incredibly detailed and effortlessly elegant. Every corner of the property invites peace, reflection, and appreciation for beauty. I first discovered Sana Tulum when I visited the location for lunch and instantly knew I had to return to experience a stay. And I’m so glad I did. This place is more than a resort—it truly feels like family. A home away from home in Tulum.
Trust me: after staying here, it’ll be hard—if not impossible—to stay anywhere else....
Read moreI would like to share my experience regarding our stay at Sana Hotel Tulum, which unfortunately fell short of our expectations. Some background; we are a mid fifties couple traveling very frequent and international. We don't write reviews but this experience has made the exception.
Misleading Expectations Despite the hotel's claim of being newly opened, we found that many aspects felt far from new. Numerous items in our room were broken, including lamps and the shower tray, and the overall appearance was outdated. This was surprising given the high price we paid—around 1000 euros per night for a room by the sea, excluding breakfast—which seemed disproportionate to the quality we received.
Service Shortcomings The service we encountered was disappointing. One staff member at reception appeared disengaged and often responded to our inquiries with vague or dismissive answers, such as “that’s not possible” or “I don’t know.” Especially, the service staff at breakfast and the beach bar seemed untrained and overwhelmed, frequently forgetting orders, roomnumber or failing to respond promptly to requests.
Maintenance Issues Our final night was particularly distressing as we experienced plumbing issues; sewage backed up in both the shower drain and toilet, leading to flooding in neighboring rooms. The chambermaids were left mopping up at night, which was an unsettling sight. Given the premium price of our accommodation, one would expect a higher standard of maintenance and service.
Lack of Amenities Moreover, the hotel lacked essential amenities such as a gym, which are typically offered at comparable establishments. We ultimately decided to leave a day early due to these ongoing issues and expressed our concerns to the manager. While he listened attentively, he was unable to offer any courtesy compensation, altough we gave them a heads up 48 hours before of our early departure.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend Sana Hotel Tulum based on our experience. The combination of high prices and inadequate service makes it difficult to justify staying here when there are likely better options...
