We have been to Tulum twice this year and have loved every minute with the exception of our reservation at this restaurant this past week and this was supposed to be one of the highlights based on its Michelin status. We had a reservation. We showed up 9 minutes early. The hostess made sure we knew that and seemed bothered by it but she did seat us (we were the only ones there). We began by ordering water and a glass of wine for my wife. The glass they brought was slightly more than a 'taster' at best in terms of quantity, but it was good.
After that, they then informed us that they were having an electricity issue and they could only accept cash which was fine but not sure why they waited to tell us that. I walked back to our hotel to get more cash but the whole time I was feeling like we just weren't really welcome (which was so odd in Tulum) and then my wife texted me the same. So, we decided to leave. Our waiter was great, but beyond that, we just could not see staying and wasting a beautiful evening in such an uninviting atmosphere.
Fortunately, after that, we found an amazing place that we now love and will recommend to anyone. Loco Tulum!! They know how to treat customers and their food and staff are amazing!!! We literally went there 3 times over our 8 day stay for either lunch or dinner.
As a note, if Ocumare is an example of a Micheline restaurant, that's sad. Not sure...
Read moreOkay, so we went there for New Year’s Eve since all the other restaurants were closed. It started off okay, but when we wanted to order dessert, they told us the kitchen was closed. Then we asked for coffee, and they said they didn’t have any. When we asked for tea, the waiter again said the kitchen was closed—which was ridiculous.
The waiter then said, “I should be home now,” and I responded that it wasn’t our problem if he wanted to leave at 11 PM, etc. He then said, “This is Mexico, and I can do something to you,” essentially threatening us. It was a terrible experience. I would avoid this place at all costs.
We spoke to the manager, who admitted, “Yes, he’s not a good man,” and encouraged us to complain to the hotel about him. Seemed like the manager was also...
Read moreOcumare served us the best food we’ve had during our entire stay in Tulum. The atmosphere was peaceful and lovely, with running water and greenery all around. We were shocked that there was so much availability given the high end quality of the food, but we loved that because we enjoyed a peaceful meal and had fantastic, attentive service. If you are a foodie and enjoy uniquely creative textures and fresh cuisine, you’ll be very pleased! We don’t often leave room for dessert, but we were so impressed by the other dishes that we had to try both desserts, and they did not disappoint! We’re going back again! (Note: higher price point, and they included tip in the total, which I haven’t seen in Tulum before… usually it is a “suggested” amount). Didn’t...
