I recently stayed at this hostel, and my experience was extremely disappointing and unacceptable. As a Moroccan, I was shocked to encounter blatant discrimination from the manager, who is Spanish. Upon arrival, I was informed that I could not stay in a mixed dormitory with my friends, despite having a valid, non-refundable reservation. This policy was enforced without any valid explanation or reference to Moroccan law, which does not forbid men or women from staying in mixed dormitories.||||To make matters worse, the manager's behavior was appalling. He refused to come out of his room to address my concerns, showing complete disregard for my situation. I later learned that he has a reputation for discriminating against Moroccans—the very people who have welcomed him into our country. This level of disrespect and racism is shocking and completely unacceptable.||||It is disheartening to see such behavior tarnishing an otherwise beautiful property. The hostel itself is clean, and the staff members are kind and welcoming. However, the cruel and discriminatory attitude of the manager undermines the efforts of the rest of the team and the potential of this establishment.||||As a regular customer who has stayed at this hostel multiple times before, I am deeply saddened by this experience. Hostels should foster inclusivity and hospitality, but this establishment has failed miserably in that regard.||||I strongly urge Moroccan travelers and anyone who values fairness and respect to avoid this hostel. There are plenty of other establishments in Morocco that will treat all guests with the dignity and hospitality...

I checked in and then immediately booked another hotel and left as soon as I saw the private room I had booked.

The first bad sign was that they have stray cats roaming the hotel. The second bad sign was that upon check in they informed me that they have had bed bug issues in the past due to travelers arriving from the desert.

When I first checked in the front desk gave me a key to a room that had construction going on in the bathroom. I walked in on two workers fixing the mirror. They then corrected this and brought me to another room.

Upon arriving in my new room I noticed that the floor clearly had not been cleaned and was very dusty. The bathroom had several long hairs on the ground as well as other debris. I inspected the beds for bed bugs and although I did not find any bed bugs I did find a mouse dropping. This is probably why they have stray cats roaming around, to catch the mice.

I told the front desk that I would like a refund as I do not feel comfortable staying in a room that has not been cleaned and that I am allergic to the roaming cats. The manager picked up the mouse poop and shoved it in my face and berated me and was incredibly unprofessional. I had been in the hotel for all of 2 hours and they refused a refund. I have stayed in many hotels and never felt compelled to leave a negative review or ask for a refund.

One last point to mention is that the rooms are extremely noisy as the doors have 2 inches of space between the floor. I assume this is also how mice get in the rooms.

The beds are also very uncomfortable.

My recommendation is...

We unfortunately chose this company to travel from Marrakech to Fez on what we were advised would be a beautiful scenic route through the Atlas Mountains. rather than the faster and indeed cheaper alternative route via the motorway.

The journey took more than twelve hours, the route was certainly not scenic, we did not stop at photogenic sites as previously advised, as there was nothing worth taking photos of.

Simply passing through hundreds of kilometres of non descript of countryside, along poor roads and through boring, lifeless villages.

To add to our \experience', our driver managed to get lost three times during the course of the journey and when we eventually arrived in Fez he was obliged to contact his 'friend', who happened to be a tour guide, to assist in finding our accommodation.

When we made it clear that we were not impressed by the journey or indeed the idea of this 'unsolicited' guide we were insulted by the driver in front of the Hotel Manager where we were staying in Fez.

We subsequently complained to the management of Ando Travel whose primary concerns appeared to be, not about our disappointing journey or the actions of his driver, but that the driver had contacted his friend the 'tour guide' in Fez, as no doubt this was regarded as taking potential additional revenue away from Ando Travel.

Based upon the above nightmare, I would not recommend this company to anyone, not even...

The place itself was pretty good from the nice beds and room facilities, to the pool/area, to the rooftop and restaurant. Loved chilling in any of these areas. The reception staff was okay but bar person, Khalid, and volunteer, Samy, were really nice to talk to especially with Samy being a traveller too. Both really made the stay there comfortable especially with being a solo traveller. The areas also gave a good space for solo and group travellers to mingle and make friends. It was actually good that I decided to stay there an extra night instead of finding a private hotel room for my last night in Morocco. Overall, I give the place and stay great but finding the place itself does bring it down. No clear directions and not enough signage within the markets. The only sign is outside the hostel door itself which is only helpful once you're standing next to it. I would suggest getting to Hammam Mouassine(facing out into the market), turn left, first left through an arch, turn left, then right through an alley(you should see a very small sign for the hostel above) and then turn right again before seeing the hostel sign outside the door. Alternatively, get to Musée Mouassine and once you're there, it's just 3 right turns(arch to both places through 31.629846, -7.989419). I have attached a photo of the arch to both places. Once you get the hang of the place, you should be fine.

Negative points: This place gives you more a feeling of a hotel than a hostel. Staff are polite and professional but you expect more friendly and warm service from a hostel. Not very nutritious breakfast buffet on first-day, second-day eggs were served. Poor lightning in the rooms. Stayed in 109 and it doesn’t have any window, the only air in possible is from the small window on top of the main door which should be closed for security reasons. The water floods when you shower. Bathroom facilities could be better. The shared kitchen looks abandoned and with no supplies to use. Top part of the terrace was being renovated Beds with no curtains and no independent light for each bed. No trash basket inside the room and only in the bathroom. Wifi could be stronger Positive points: Cleanliness. You can see the cleaning ladies professionally working everyday in their clean uniforms. I even saw one taking all the linens from the nice old room. Great and different resting areas Large property Small but nice pool and courtyard Breakfast buffet Very visible entrance door Well-known place by locals which can be helpful when you are trying to find the place In short, expensive for what it offers in general and compared to other properties.
