A filmmaker friend invited me and a friend to Marrakech in early August 2018, for six days, and he put us in a deluxe suite at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Gueliz on Avenue Mohammed V.
The suite had two baths (a half bath off the small entrance hall and the spacious stone tiled bath had a double sink, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner and body gel, hand soap), lots of white towels and bath mats, a full bath tub to relax in, a large walk-in shower and separate toilet room that also had a telephone, and which is accessed through a mirrored door.
The suite included a sitting room with French wooden double doors that slid into the walls, and a flat-screen television. There was also efficient very welcome air-conditioning in hot Marrakech (44 C), with each room having a separate thermostat.
Additionally, the Radisson Blu suite had tasteful and comfortable furniture, and there was a large terrace about 25 feet long with rattan furniture, a digital combination safe, several closets, an iron and ironing board, a mini bar and an espresso machine.
The king-sized bed was actually two twin beds, with very comfortable mattresses, and each bed had two feather down pillows, a light fluffy white duvet blanket and two reading lamps with on and off switches within easy reach. The bed room had another flat-screen television, subdued recessed ceiling lights that were not glaring, and the salon or living room had a comfortable sofa and round table with several chairs.
Another feature of the Radisson Blu Hotel is the soundproof double-glazed glass windows and sliding glass doors, making it very quiet and restful.
The incredible buffet breakfast is quite extensive with cooks making eggs or omlette to order, freshly squeezed Orange juice, coffee with hot milk, salads, cheeses, butter, turkey, real bacon, cereals, fruits, and almost anything else from mushrooms to fresh garlic and yogurt. I must have gained an entire pound each morning from my breakfasts, with friendly and polite uniformed waiters.
I almost forgot to mention that breakfasts included fresh croissants, marmalades or confitures, honey, assorted whole grain breads and different kinds of baguettes.
It is an elaborate and wonderful breakfast that you will certainly enjoy whether you sit inside on comfortable seats or at booths, with cloth or linen napkins, and salt and pepper mills. If you choose, you may also eat outside around the large swimming pool in the inner courtyard.
You can't find a better contemporary hotel in Marrakech, and it is located at the Carte Eden Shopping Mall and close to excellent and upscale shops, restaurants and cafes. Of course there are porters to help with baggage and hailing a taxi, and good security. The hotel has several...
Read moreWHEELCHAIR ACCESS MOSTLY VERY GOOD. I am writing this review from the point of view mainly of the wheelchair access. I visited in 2024, so do check with staff if there are any updates.
My wheelchair WIDTH is 64cm including the wheels. The DEPTH of it, including footplates jutting out and measured from the back of the wheels is around 92cm.
I WAS TOLD BY THE MANAGEMENT STAFF THAT this hotel has 3 X ACCESSIBLE rooms: Room No: 3076 has a King Bed so suitable for couples. Room No: 4076 has 2 single Beds. Room No: 5076 has 2 single Beds.
I stayed in room 3076. This room had 2 separate BATHROOM areas:
Bathroom 1: ACCESSIBLE BATHROOM, which had a fold down chair, overhead shower, and grab rails, (no shower hose unfortunately). The wash basin was low enough, but high enough for me to be able to get my wheelchair underneath. And it had a toilet with grab rails.
Bathroom 2: These were separate cubicles. One had a shower in it, the other cubicle had a toilet. The sink itself was located in the bedroom area.
I was able to get onto the balcony using my manual wheelchair even with a slight 1- 1 1/2 inch lip. And the balcony itself had space for me and my wheelchair.
This hotel had a lovely gym that i used with various cardio and weights machines, including some free weights.
They have three lifts, with porters to help you as each lift takes you to certain floors. If I had to make one complaint about the lifts, it is that they are located over the other side/opposite side of where the ACCESSIBLE rooms are. And most of the passage areas of the floors where the rooms are, are carpeted, so can be a drag.
The restaurant area is all very accessible. The only complaint I would make is that the breakfast buffet area was high up so I had to get some help choosing what food i wanted. The staff are lovely and are very willing to help.
The outside area by the pool is very accessible and has plenty of sun lounges, tables and chairs etc. And is very quiet. It felt like a haven for me. There are two ramps leading to the swimming pool itself. There isn't a swimming pool hoist UNFORTUNATELY. This point has been raised with the manager. I had to get my partner to lower me into the water. The steps leading into the pool water itself are the ladder style steps.
The area where the hotel is located has a supermarket which had two lifts albeit quite small but fitted my wheelchair.
Please look at the photographs to get more of a picture of whether this hotel is suitable.
All in all a very accommodating, clean hotel with...
Read moreShockingly disappointed with this hotel. The staff were astonishingly rude when we checked in (after we waited for over an hour), we had all our ID, check in details, visas and pldriving licenses but my fiance couldn't find his passport so they refused to check us in, saying nobody was even allowed in the hotel bar without a passport (which is untrue as we had been for drinks the night before with no problems). I asked if I could check in and bring my partner as my guest and they laughed and said they didn't care if I was a diplomat, I wasn't allowed any guests. While we were looking again for my partner's passport they then called security and escorted my partner from the hotel, leaving me alone. This was utterly unnecessary and shocking when all we were doing is trying to find his passport. For information, the website explicitly states that the only thing that MIGHT be needed is 'government issued ID ' but this is not a requirement. When I got to my room the internet was not working, the phones were not working so I had to go back to reception for help. I was told 'do you really need internet?' and 'sorry we don't offer internet in the rooms'. We only chose this hotel specifically because it states free wireless and wired internet in the rooms' as well as a business centre. I was told at reception that this was old information and there was no wired internet available, the 'business centre' is a computer next to the check in desk in reception, and that the IT manager wouldn't be able to fix my internet until tomorrow afternoon. She again said 'are you sure you need internet now?', I replied yes I really urgently needed it for several meetings, she said she would contact the manager. I waited for an hour and watched her check in other guests.
While waiting, I went to the bar and asked for a glass of milk. Security followed me and the barman refused to serve me.
This is the single worst experience I have had at any hotel, let alone any of the Radisson Blu hotels I have stayed in all over the world. I am still waiting in reception with no internet and nobody helping. My partner was not allowed back into the hotel for...
