Let me preface this review by stating that I read hundreds of reviews for hundreds of riads before booking this one. The previous reviews of this riad actually led me to cancel my other booking and book this one instead. I hope this review can lead the next traveler in the same direction. If you have the opportunity to stay at Riad Jardin Des Sens, PLEASE do. Nothing about this riad disappoints. The owners, Sam and Sophie, were incredibly lovely people. They went out of their way to make us dinner reservations, even calling in a personal favor 30 minutes before dinner time to ensure we were able to eat at their top recommended restaurant before we left the following day. The staff, Mohammad, Azzidine and Mostafa truly made the experience unforgettable. Azzidine and Mostafa began to feel like family within hours of our arrival at the riad. Azzidine paid attention to every detail and even surprised us with a box of the pastries we enjoyed the most during our stay without us mentioning our preference to him.
In addition, the location of this riad is perfect. Just a 2-3 minute walk from the mesmerizing experience of Dabachi street and only about 5 minutes walk from Jma el Fna (the square.) The riad is incredibly beautiful, well decorated and looks identical to the pictures, which is something I found to not be the case with other riads I looked at. Sam and Sophie suggested we book dinner at the riad the day of our arrival and the lovely ladies in the kitchen prepared one of the most amazing meals we had in Marrakesh. Azzidine sang to us, taught us about his culture and shared stories of his upbringing. Speaking to him felt like reconnecting with an old friend.
We felt safe and secure in the riad, as they have 24/7 security and are constantly available to provide whatever you may need. The riad is in a safe area and we at no point felt uncomfortable, even walking back from dinner at around 1am.
The ONLY thing I could possibly warn people about is that the internet connection is slightly slow compared to what we are accustomed to in the US. This is by no means a complaint as it worked perfectly for what I needed (uploading photos and messaging with family at home) but if you plan on working or require good internet connection for whatever reason, this may present a challenge. This is by no means the fault of the riad as it appears that this is the case with all of Marrakech. But the beauty of this city is the ability to disconnect and immerse yourself in the incredible cultural experience you will undoubtedly receive.
Our time in Marrakesh was life changing and we truly owe it to the staff at Riad Jardin Des Sens. I have never felt more at home in a place so foreign to me. Sam and Sophie, thank you for the experience of a lifetime. I apologize for not writing this review sooner, as my stay was in February of 2020. Our stay was so incredible I felt inclined to post this after...
Read moreIn all my travels, I don't believe I've stayed at a place that made me feel more content and cared for completely. ||The Riad itself is lovely - wonderfully appointed, great attention to details, decorated in a style that makes you feel warm and relaxed. The rooms are cozy (and I don't mean that in the sense of being small, but in the feeling they project). The interior courtyards have chairs to lounge, pools to cool down in, fires to warm up to and the roof top patio has a variety of seating to relax, read a book, have a chat or enjoy the sunset. Although only a few streets over from the busy streets of the Medina, the craziness melts away and the area itself is quiet and calm.||The food served is delicious - and crazily generous (in one case I ate my meal over 2 days as they were nice enough to store the leftovers for me). My husband and I happily ate dinners by firelight and were wowed by how good they were. The breakfasts were yummy and really were over the top with how much they served. Bring your appetite!||But the best part of the Jardin des Sens is the people. I can't express how genuinely lovely they are across the board. Upon entering you are provided with Mint tea and cookies and told that this is now your home. And they mean it. It is almost like being taken care of by thoughtful family members. For instance: "Did you sleep well? Is there anything lacking with the food or do you want something special? Is there anything that would make your stay better? Of course we'll light a fire for you! Do you need us to make arrangements for entertainment or travel? You like cats...would you like me to show you where there are kittens? :-)." And the list goes on. I am gluten intolerant and am often lucky to get any sort of gluten free bread. But they brought me a selection of 3 (!) different gluten breads and pastries every morning to go with the rest of my breakfast. It is that kind of unexpected attention that makes you feel so great. The staff are the definition of "des gens sympas" (and were great to have conversations with as well). I was genuinely saddened when I had to leave.||Wholly recommend (although kind of also want to keep this place as a bit of a secret...). I look forward to...
Read moreMy wife and I had the very good fortune that when our daughter and her partner offered us a short holiday in Marrakech, as a joint birthday present, they chose the Riad Le Jardin Des Sens & Spa for us to stay at. From the moment we set foot inside, the manager, Redoaun, was the perfect host. He sat us down, with mint tea and biscuits, explained some of the best places to visit and what to expect to see in different parts of the city, marking up a complimentary map for us as he went. This included information for our own comfort and safety with regard to what to eat where, where we could buy alcoholic drinks if we wanted and what to expect from / how to deal with street traders etc. He went on to ask us to consider the Riad as our own home away from home during our stay, and that nothing was too much trouble - if there was anything we needed, we only had to ask. In those 20 minutes or so he managed to set the scene for a very memorable stay in a wonderful city. All of the food at the Riad is not just superbly prepared, it is also beautifully presented and served - the breakfast is extensive to say the least, with a number of different sweet and savoury courses, which are varied from day to day. The dinners have to be seen to be believed, we ate there on three evenings and never even came close to finishing one, and again the quality of every dish was simply fantastic. All of the male staff were very professional and those that served us the most often, Said, Youness and Issam, were also incredibly friendly and attentive. Nothing was ever too much trouble for any of them. The female staff we encountered were also very friendly and polite, although we didn’t have quite so much contact with them as we didn’t use the spa facilities. Our room was very well furnished, well appointed, clean and very comfortable. We both slept very well indeed every night. Another bonus for the Riad is that as long as you don’t get waylaid at the shops along the way, it is just a five minute walk to the main square, the Place...
